Is there kind of a link to a general page where one WOULD click if there were any free episodes available, or do they only generate a new link when applicable like "free first episodes" some weeks and there's no stable url available?

There is no stable URL. They create a collection each week they want to promote free episodes. There aren't that many free episodes in the summer so they don't make the collection each week.

They used to have a "Free" page in the "Collections" section that showed ALL free titles including short previews, but they got rid of that the same time they changed the interface and also got rid of the daily 99 cent rental (my main reason for checking Vudu every day until that stopped.)
