Default Best "dumb" Blu-Ray player?

My brother-in-law is finally ready to ascend to Blu-Ray brotherhood, but doesn't need one with streaming capabilities or 3D playback, which I am assuming would keep the cost down.

What are the best players right now that are more affordable?

It's hard to find new BDPs with only basic capabilities, big brands have stopped focusing on what's important - durability, stability and mainly quality components that made electronics last longer.

Checkout Sony's updated entry-level model BDP-S1700 / they are the go to brand for Blu-ray players.

... Finally as long as you disconnect the internet it'll play dumb.

I work at an addiction rehab. We can't let our residents access online content. I really needed a dumb player. Found the LG BP135 Blu-ray Disc Player.

As stated before, it's going to be difficult to find a new blu-ray player without all the bell and whistles, because that's how all the manufactures are making them now.... You may be able to find a used basic player on ebay, at local pawn shops and flea markets, where people who have sold or traded their older models blu-ray players, and have upgraded to newer ones..
