Default Dead Solid Perfect (1988)

This is one of the better golf movies and never got a Laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray released. It stars Randy Quaid. I have it on VHS and it originally aired and premiered on HBO in 1988. I would love a DVD or Blu-ray of this movie to be released. My VHS copy is getting pretty worn out watch it usually like twice a year. There is no streaming version of this movie available either. This is right up there with Tin Cup and Caddyshack 1 and 2 imo. Great golf movie.

She was great in it

I don't think Warner has even done an HD master for this film sadly. I wonder if there are possibly music rights issues with this movie keeping it from DVD and Blu-ray and streaming. Tangerine Dream did the score for it and there is a CD available.

It's one of the better golf movies. It was a made for TV movie but obviously shot on film. Who knows if they ever did an HD scan of the master. It deserves so much better treatment than just VHS. You can't even stream it except Youtube which is still the VHS.

It makes me wonder if there is some music rights stuff going on with the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream. No LD, DVD or Blu-ray.

so the only thing id say on the Tangerine Dream front would be TD did about 4 movies in the 1987-1988 era and 3 of those 4 are on blu-ray. Near Dark, Three O'clock High and Miracle Mile all seemed to work things out with TD.

I agree, this is RQ in not only a great golfing movie, but just a great movie and really against his style of acting I guess I would put it. They VHS to me has become unwatchable sadly, strangely more so then most of my VHS collection this one really seems bad.

I think we are in a small minority of people who would want/buy this sadly, but that said i would of thought the same about some of the other HBO produced films from the 80s and some of those got releases.

There are about 60 VHS only titles I would beg for on HD, this being one high on my list

Good point about TD and some of their other work out on BD. Maybe that's not going to be an issue. At the very least if they have no interest in doing a physical release this should be available to stream in HD.

Simple neglect likely the reason why Warner/HBO has never done anything with this movie since the VHS release. It's just a shame really as this movie deserves so much better.

It really does, along with hundreds/thousands of other movies that have been forgot about and left on VHS/awful DVDs.

I'm constantly trying to push for new to disc releases (see Vinegar Syndrome thread), but with all the pushback I get, it is no surprise we don't see many new to disc titles released when people defend/are happy to keep buying the same movies over and over again.

I respect that you are trying to get the studios to care and release some of these films on Blu-ray. I have the VHS for Dead Solid Perfect and it's starting to wear out I usually watch it a few times a year.

Good man. I also have the VHS for Dead Solid Perfect. Hopefully something changes and it can get a disc release.

I hope so as well. Having a movie on VHS is like having a VCD copy of it. Both could be better.

not to stir the pot to be honest, but one thing that did cross my mind, and i wouldn't of said this 10 years ago, but its possible, possible RQ's political views / what some call conspiracy theories could play a factor into a release. Now that said, we are trending in a direction more allowing of Actors to have views that don't traditionally align with Hollywood. Some small sense I have, which is probably not accurate, but could be, is who the star is of the movie and his views. I could be way off base, but i for one can separate a lot of views from their entertainers where maybe others have a much harder time doing so.....eeek!

I doubt it. It's basically been neglected and forgotten more or less by the studio. Maybe a boutique label like Shout or Arrow could get it from Warner/HBO and do a Blu-ray. I have doubts an HD master even exists since it's not available to stream only on Youtube which is a VHS port. Young Einstein also a Warner title does not seem to have an HD master. Lightning Jack also an HBO film neglected as well no HD master.

This is a good example of a catalog movie that could badly use an upgrade with vhs being the last home video format.

Definitely. No Streaming, Laserdisc, DVD or Blu-ray release. Just VHS.
