Default Britain's Favourite Superhero (Channel 4, Sat 30th July)

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/b...rite-superhero

The blurb; 'Documentary making extensive use of interviews and clips from big-budget Hollywood blockbusters to explore the story of how superheroes - once exclusively found on the pages of comic books - found their way to the silver screen, becoming bankable cinematic icons in the process. A Channel 4 poll outlines which do-gooders the British public have taken to their hearts, and the programme charts the history of big-screen heroics from the release of the ground-breaking Superman: The Movie in 1978 through to the high-profile releases arriving in cinemas this year. Along the way, viewers are given a chance to revisit Tim Burton's noir-themed iteration of Batman in the 1990s, the angst-filled antics of the X-Men and Spider-Man in the early noughties, and the far-reaching storylines of Marvel's inter-connected Avengers films. All this culminates as the poll results reveals which five heroes have captured British imaginations to become the nation's favourites.'

'We have nothing else to show round this time of year, so we'll just chuck together a countdown show on the cheap...'

Indeed.
I knew the programme was going to cater to the common denomination and just have centre around the comic book film stuff. Which is a great shame really, especially with regards to the programme's title. Heaven forbid a public service broadcaster to try and educate or enlighten many viewers to characters they may not have been aware of before or sadly forgotten about.
Apart from Blade's British link, absolutely no mention of any native or homegrown British comic heroes such as Judge Dredd, Dan Dare, Marvelman (Miracleman), The Spider, Archie Robot, Bananaman, Spider-Woman, or even Captain Britain!
Oh well, just goes to show you how little they know and how little effort they put into research.
