Default I contacted Oppo about their 4K Blu-ray players

Yes, our anticipation is to have a player that supports two HDMI outputs to ensure maximum compatibility with customer's current and future HDMI based televisions and receivers.

"By the way, while we’re talking Ultra HD, I contacted our friends over at Oppo Digital to see if they have any plans for the format. As many of you know, Oppo players are favorite by a lot of people – especially industry insiders – for their quality and feature set. The bad news is that they have nothing to announce at this time. But the good news is that they are developing an Ultra HD Blu-ray player and hope to have one ready for shipping in time for the holidays. I’m told that they really want to take the time to get it right. So there to go." Bill Hunt

End of the year, hmmm. That will take some patience as the movies start coming out in March and Samsung for one will debut their UHD player same time. I have an Oppo 103 that I'm going to sell and use the money on the purchase of Oppo's UHD player but I don't want to wait till Christmas to watch UHD movies.

I suspect it will still be a universal disc player (SACDs, DVD-A, etc), but I hope it will have analog audio outputs like the 103.

Can someone explain the need for 2 HDMI?
Is it because the TV may have the upgraded HDMI necessary for 4K, but your receiver may not?

Hmm. I guess that's smart.
Though mine has 4K pass through. I wonder if that'd work.

Exactly. Just like 3D for HDMI 1.3 AVR.

Hmm. I guess that's smart.

Only if the 4K content doesn't have HDCP 2.2.
Answers above...

Who prefer to need for 2 HDMI outputs video and audio. Silently noise video. Some who is audiophile for no video only music.

It's if people don't have a 4K or HDR capable receiver they can put the video directly to the TV and the audio can go to the receiver or pre-pro.

That is a loooong wait when I am already collection 4K moves with HDR and Oppo "hopes" to have one by the holidays. I hope they mean the St. Patrick holidays and not the Christmas holidays

Samsung UHD 8500 player slim, shiny and curve. It's cost $600 for Canada. That's little problem too small remote for me. Curve is joking.

Panasonic UHD player THX and high audio. I don't know how much cost it for Canada?

I have heard the Panasonic will be up around $850 U.S.

I know it's been mentioned in other threads but might as well update this thread with the new info...

But oppo is now telling people late summer/fall for the release of their 4k player and will discontinue their 1080p models since the 4k models can do everything a 108pp model can do.

Release date is possibly moving closer than Christmas. That is a good thing, I hope.

Yea Later is better any way. Every 4K Disc released right now is not Mind blowing better and even some cases where the Blu-Ray looks better than the 4K couterpart. Most of the movies if not all right now on 4K are just upscale.

Star Wars and Batman V Superman might have the best Quality as it they might be true 4k.

I Will buy certain releases on 4K even thought I have No 4K TV or Player but Will have them ready for when I do Go OPPO and 4K TV later on. So The later release is fine by me.

And hopefully not squeezed onto 66gb disc with the actual video using less that 50gb.

I don't know how much truth there is in it, but I saw this posted on a similar UK forum.

I've just been told that Oppo have invited their retail partners to an unveiling of a new Ultra BD at the end of the month!

Prices expected to be £1600-1800.
£1600-1800 equals $2100-2400. The expected price tag makes me suspect the validity of this.

Hopefully that isn't true. I bought my 103 for $549 CAD - anything north of $1000 is waaay above my budget.

I see that he has been a member since February 2014. As I'm not so active on that forum, I don't know much more about him.
