As we continue awaiting his classic Pink Panther series, here are two lesser known and loved Blake Edwards titles in need of a blu release. Sunset at least has an anamorphic DVD release but That's Life was only released in a 1.33:1 disc that's years out of print. Hoping that these two and more of Edwards' work see release on blu-ray in the future.

Sunset would be a good title for Twilight Time while who knows who owns That's Life (Columbia released it theatrically but it was an independently-produced film that had its home video rights pre-sold to Vestron). It got a DVD release through Lionsgate but that was a long time ago.
Meanwhile, I'm surprised Disney Movie Club has never considered releasing his TV movie Justin Case on DVD. You think Edwards and George Carlin (in a rare starring role) would have gotten some interest. |

I was a big fan of Edwards' eighties output back in the day but with time I've become more interested in his 50's to 60's output.
I recently bought Blind Date on blu-ray. I remembered finding it VERY funny during its original release in theatres but I was a bit disappointed. It has aged way more than say High Time or The Great Race. Sunset didnīt do as well at the box office. Here in Chile it was the only Edwards film for Columbia that didn't get a theatrical release. I rented it and didn't think that much of it. I haven't rewatched it since. I would rather have Shout Factory give us Skin Deep from the Morgan Creek catalogue and Warner finally doing justice to Days of Wine and Roses. |
