"Luke I am your father"

nothing beats that in terms of being iconic

One of the poll options is a joke. Try to guess which one. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Well I don't know how much of a "twist" it is, but when
[Show spoiler]Billy (Leonardo DiCaprio) died at the end of the Departed,
that was pretty unexpected.

You didn't expect
[Show spoiler]Leo to die in a movie? He always does...

Norman Bates. I caught Psycho a few years ago, I had seen the film before and remember enjoying it, though I could only remember Norm arguing with his mum and of course the music around the death scene. I was absolutely humbled by the ending.I really couldn't remember what happened. LOVED it!.

Ironic that the film is over a half century ago, but it has the freshest memory for me.

My most memorable one has to be from one of my favorite horror films, Saw.

[Show spoiler]John Kramer/Jigsaw plays dead the whole movie and rises off the floor to reveal he's been playing his victims the entire time.

Bonus: If you're not a Trekkie, be forewarned:

The Crying Game.

One that probably doesn't require much explanation.

Other films with good twists that haven't been mentioned:
Soylent Green
[Show spoiler]Soylent Green is people

Fallen
[Show spoiler]Azazel never died and is the narrator

The Others
[Show spoiler]The family that thought spirits were haunting them is actually the one's that are dead doing the haunting

Unbreakable
[Show spoiler]Price is the villain

The Game
[Show spoiler]Everything Nicholas went through was really all a game

Book of Eli t
[Show spoiler]he book was in Braille, and Eli has remembered it word for word

What stinks is that the most iconic twists I never got to really experience unspoiled; because the Psycho, Planet of the Apes, and The Empire Strikes Back twists were so iconic that I knew about them as a young child through media, people, etc before I even got to experience the twists from watching the films. I can only imagine what it was like being in the theater and experiencing with a collective audience Taylor realizing he is on Earth or Vader revealing to Luke that he is his father.

The film really has two twists, but the twist
[Show spoiler]at the end when Sullivan was returning to his apartment and Dignam was waiting inside for him and shoots and kills Sullivan
I think I didn't see coming more.

Agree. This one I got to experience without knowing the twist beforehand, and I didn't see it coming. I felt satisfied with this twist.

That was a REALLY great twist!! Actually until that happened I was convinced that
[Show spoiler]Dr. Gordon was Jigsaw! Yes, even after he cut off his own foot!!

I knew Planet of the Apes twist from a Simpsons episode, and Psycho through word of mouth. But I didn't know Darth Vader was Luke's father when I saw it on television as a kid. That was cool.

Spoilers is what this thread's about!

In what, did "the butler do it"? That's pretty iconic, but I don't know where it originated.

I absolutely hate that twist. HATE IT. Always thought it was stupid and made no sense.

Anyway, it was tough to choose between Star Wars and Sixth Sense but for me Sixth Sense takes it.

I haven't seen Primal Fear, so I don't know if that might be the joke...

Otherwise I would have to go with
[Show spoiler]Blade Runner since it isn't something that is revealed in the movie and therefore isn't a twist in the movie...

It irritates me that I guessed the twist in Sixth Sense simply because I quite early thought "what if he died" and then started noticing all the small tell-tale signs that you were only supposed to discover on the next watch when you knew the twist...

For me Fight Club wins because I had a colleague blurt out the twist without asking if anyone hadn't seen the movie. So when I finally watched it the first time I was thinking "that b*stard was pulling my leg" all the way through to the twist reveal!

Most iconic? That is definitely Star Wars.
