My living room entertainment stand consist of: 4 pullout shelves, inside 2 Can-Am flip door deep pullout cabinets, on screw-in wheels, capped by a double length Mica top.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/album.php?albumid=232 Can-Am products are made in Canada & sold online direct from the manufacturer. More information can be found at the links below. http://www.can-am.ca/index.html http://www.can-am.ca/features.htm http://www.can-am.ca/modular.htm http://www.can-am.ca/AV-electronics-...o-cabinets.htm http://www.can-am.ca/tv-stand.htm http://www.can-am.ca/home-theater.htm http://www.can-am.ca/docs/Can-Am-Catalog-US-96x100.pdf I made my purchase in 2007 when I upgraded my living room gear & furniture. Ownership has been pleasant & problem free until last month, when I purchased a Emotiva XPA-5 amp. The pullout shelves capacity is "Will hold up to 60 lbs comfortably.". I guess the Emotiva XPA-5( 66 lbs ) plus the SONY STR-DA5300ES( 33 lbs ) made it too uncomfortable ![]() ![]() Received the XPA-5 on 2-16-10. ![]() ![]() ![]() Yesterday( 3-22-10 ) I noticed the amp & receiver getting closer in the middle. The weight of the receiver & amp was causing the shelf interior to bow/flex. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see, the shelf is hollow & has no crossbeam support in the middle ![]() ![]() ![]() I made a run to Home Depot, grabbing: a plank of 3/4 inch Birch plywood, a tube of Liquid Nails( heavy duty ), & wood screws. I used the whole tube of Liquid Nails, weighed the wood down , & let sit overnight. ![]() ![]() The next morning I marked, drilled, & screwed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Shelf back in, time for a test. ![]() ![]() ![]() 3-23-10 Level! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() While the cabinet was empty, I decided to add some Ikea Dioders to the underside of the flip up door. ![]() ![]() ( iPhone pics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I also decided to add a couple of these( for easier access to the receiver & amp rears during rewiring ). One will be mounted on the cabinet wall behind the receiver, the other behind the amp. They will be in installed later this week. http://www.techsupplydepot.com/Cool-...ABS_p_472.html GR-410-BLK HighRes2.jpg 4" x 10" Last edited by ZIPPO; 03-26-2010 at 03:14 AM. |

There is always someone who has to b the comedian....I like the lights Zippo. I use a single lightbar from my Cyron set in the same manner where you put your Dioder lights...I like the effect it provides. Very good job with the shelf too!

I have to say that the pull out drawer racks are a great idea.
That has to make cable connection,a lot easier. And also like the way you strengthened that Amp/AVR Shelf. Very Nice. Thanks for the Links. This could be a great help. |

I'm making the leap to plasma( Panasonic TC-P65V10 ) in the living room. Ordered last Thursday( 7/22/10 ), delivery this Tuesday( 7/27 ) or Thursday( 7/29 ). Fellow Ohioan & Blu-ray.com member DimeMecka( https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...a&folderid=861 ), will be assisting with the TV swaps/installs. Any advice on set up precautions or tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. |

This post is in response to a couple of questions from my HT Gallery.
m1976ali » Dec 20, 2010 12:03 PM ZIPPO how do you get those openings for components when they fit so perfectly and how many fans (and what size)are you running in the Rack?? pmac » Dec 16, 2010 11:09 AM How did you get all those holes for the components do you have to cut them yourself? The thing has a thermostat, I assume built in cooling as well. Middle Atlantic( http://www.middleatlantic.com/ ) cuts the custom shelf face plates. They have many components in their custom shelf database( http://repnet.middleatlantic.com/rsh/RSHdataDepth.txt ). More info here: http://www2.middleatlantic.com/compa...o/RESI2010.pdf I have twelve 120mm fans providing cooling( 4 upper & 8 lower ). I purchased the fans from Coolerguys.com( http://www.coolerguys.com/sff21.html ). SPECS Model #- SFF21D Dimensions- 120x120x25mm Fan Speed- 800rpm Fan Noise- 8.7dBA Air Flow- 33.5CFM Rated Current- 0.10A These fans are pin drop silent, but get the job done. The 4 upper fans sit directly on top of the receiver & are controlled by the Coolerguys Programmable Thermal Fan Controller( http://www.coolerguys.com/840556090885.html ). I have it set to start at 80F & shut off at 78F, so the fans are constantly on until the receiver is turned off & cooled below 79F. The 8 lower fans are mounted in a Middle Atlantic Modular Thermostatic Fan Tray( http://www.middleatlantic.com/rackac/cooling/fta.htm ). The fan tray had 3 fans in it when I purchased it, but they were too noisy. So I removed them & installed 8 of the Scythe S-FLEX( SFF21D ) fans from Coolerguys. The fan tray has a built in thermostatic controller that cuts on at 87F & off at 83F. The rackshelves are fully ventilated on the sides & bottom to facilitate airflow. The lower vents on the rack are open on all sides, while the vents around the top of the rack are closed. I'm no longer using the 3 fan rack top plate I rigged up. Its been replaced by a slot vented top plate, to facilitate the increased airflow. Other changes to the rack & bedroom I've made since taking pictures earlier this year are: -added a OTA DVR http://www.channelmaster.com/Digital..._DVR_s/120.htm REVIEWS http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/DT...-7000PAL.shtml http://www.crutchfield.com/p_6597000...w&rvm=ShowAllt -added a HDMI switcher( the Marantz SR6003 only has 3 HDMI inputs ) http://store.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs...egory=10003104 -added a iPod dock( the Marantz SRX003 receivers don't have a special input for the corded Marantz iPod docks, so I bought a Apple Universal Dock & installed it in a Raxxess in-rack iPod docking station. Component for video & stereo RCA for audio. ) http://www.raxxess.com/residential/p...ions/iRDS.html http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC...co=MjAyNDIwNTA -added Paradigm speakers -added SONY TV( from living room ) -had a full service ISF calibration done by Chad B( http://hdtvbychadb.com/index.html ) Super nice & very knowledgeable! ![]() Possible post CES 2011 rack additions are: -swapping out the ( OPPO DV-983H & SONY BDP-S360 ) for a OPPO BDP-93 Blu-ray player BDP-93-top-front.jpg -adding a UPS( Cyberpower PR1000LCDRT2U ) for the DVR & PS3 http://www.cyberpowersystems.com/pro...______________ PR1000LCDRT2U-Angle.jpg PR1000LCDRT2U-Rear.jpg Last edited by ZIPPO; 12-27-2010 at 06:15 PM. |
