Default Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made (2015) - 8/16

http://www.amazon.com/Raiders-Blu-Ra...rds=raiders%21

The true, decades-spanning tale of the greatest fan film ever made. After Steven Spielberg's classic Raiders of the Lost Ark was released 35 years ago, three 11-year-old boys from Mississippi set out on what would become a 7-year-long labor of love and tribute to their favorite film: a faithful, shot-for-shot adaptation of the action adventure film. They finished every scene...except one; the film's explosive airplane set piece. Over two decades later, the trio reunited with the original cast members from their childhood in order to complete their masterpiece. Featuring interviews with John Rhys Davies, Eli Roth and more, Raiders! is the story of the project's culmination, chronicling the friends' dedication to their artistic vision--mixed in with some movie magic--to create the greatest fan film ever made.

Dangerous Men was so great as a complete package (from everything on the disc to the thick clear case and included booklet) that I'll be blind-buying this.

Drafthouse is starting to step it up to Arrow's level in a lot of ways, so I'm all about supporting them so more releases like this can make their way into the world.

I'd be curious to see how they pulled off the Well of Souls scene with the snakes.

I'm guessing for legal reasons this doesn't actually include the whole fan film?

So is this a documentary about these friends making the movie or does it actually have their full remake on it too.

Same question here. Been really wanting a release of this since hearing about it a few years ago. Watching bits on youtube isn't the way I want to experience this.
If the actual fan-film isn't included, I don't really wanna buy this....fingers crossed. I'm sure the doc will be an excellent supplement to the film though.

I'd bet it does. The doc is screening here in Baltimore at the end of August in a double feature with the original fan film (and with Raiders of the Lost Ark screening there a few days later), so it sounds like Drafthouse has cleared the rights for it.

The official site for the fan-film sells a DVD copy with an added commentary track, so I suppose something has been sorted out. The listing for the Blu says BD + DVD - perhaps a Blu-ray with the doc, and a DVD with the fan-film? No point putting the remake on a Blu-ray since it was made with consumer VHS cameras in the '80s.

It certainly would be retarded if the film wasnt included. While it's understandable to sell them separate as two separate blurays but no one would buy all that so realistically they need to sell the doc and the movie together if they want people to buy this.

Not entirely. The doc is partially about their kickstarter. They weren't able to film the Flying Wing fight back in the 80's, so they wanted to raise money to finish it. Once it got funded, the scene was shot on a DSLR, in HD. It's the only scene that's HD in the fan film.

Default The doc and fan film are ultimate double feature

I attended the premiere double feature of the Raiders! road show as it premiered in Seattle last week with two of the kids present for Q&A after both screenings.

It was such a fun night getting to hear the story and then witness their fan film finally finished after 25 + years. They had for sale shirts, a book, and the DVD of the fan film. So the finished fan film is available for purchase and I haven't played it yet, but Eric did say in the Q&A that most of the finished footage of the fan film was 6th generation from the original footage so it looks pretty rough at times, but it doesn't matter. What they did is masterfully brilliant and fun and an altogether serious geek achievement.

If you can catch the roadshow find out about it here:
http://www.raidersguys.com

I'll definitely be getting the Blu-Ray, and most likely the DVD of the fan film is not included, but a purchase of the DVD helps them recoup the costs of the epic reshoot documented in the documentary.

I asked a guy who works for Alamo if the fan film is included and he says they don't know yet.

I asked them on Facebook and they said it won't be included. Sad

Did you watch the trailer? I think it explains it pretty well. It's about the making of a faithful fan remake of Indiana Jones

I saw the double feature last night over at the AFI Silver - what a treat and a inbetween film Q&A with Chris & Eric - I liked the Adaptation more than I did with the doc film. but the doc is recommended for those who have seen the 1988 fan movie.

I do hope someone can distribute the film itself. I think the doc will leave people fasciated and appreciative of the extent they went through, but not completely satisifed.

I won't ruin it but let's just say there is no horse in the 'adaptation'

I gave Chris a little hard time (joking) comment regarding the omission. I though did praise him for including that little bit of jarring violence when the soldier gets run over by the truck - Chris really appreciated that compliment
