I know yes I can technically watch 2k blu rays, but does using a 4k player bring out the true 2k scan? I hope that makes sense.
I have a 4k tv now with 120 hz native refresh and hdr, but I'm using my ps3 to watch movies on it. I don't buy 4k movies really but I have tons of like scream factory and so on movies that have 2k scans of their movies. |

I just got a 4k player and it upscales very nicely....
however I also have a PS3 that I was using for my blu rays and the 4k TV made an enormous jump in PQ quality to begin with.... so much so that the 4k player only makes a minimal difference... I would buy the player only if you are planning on buying some 4k movies... |

2k scans are 2048 x 1556, depending on the source most are blown up about 10% to get a 1080p image for our Blu-rays. You won't see any extra information with a UHD BD player, it just isn't there, it was removed before authoring the discs. |

So it doesn't sound like it would matter unless I was buying true 4k discs then right?
Well in that case would I see a benefit from buying a less expensive 4k up scaling player? |

Upgrading to UHD BDs with HDR would be a step-up, but you'd have to see some demos to see if you're interested, but a 4K player to play BDs isn't really needed unless you're going to buy UHD BDs or want the player for something else (they're generally a lot quicker than most BD players). |
