Default Official Lucha Underground Thread (El Ray Network)

I noticed there wasn't a thread for this new wrestling promotion that has geared up on the El Ray Network. Granted the channel is not readily available across national programming, it is being picked up and is available in the most major markets and cities. Is anyone else watching this start-up?

While the first episode was a bit jarring....4 weeks in and this new promotion is really gelling. It's fresh, new and gives actual seriousness and real authenticity back to the wrestling world. The characters have some depth, talent and the stories are exciting. The commentating team of Matt Striker and Vampiro is the real surprise. I was never really a fan of Striker before....but he's come into his own and Vampiro has a sense of what a new age heel commentator should be.

So we have Chavo Guerrero who seems to finally feel comfortable in his skin. Johnny Mundo (Morrison) who is killing it...Konnan who has some excellent subtlety of a heel with shades of grey. Amazing new talent on the roster range from Mil Muertes to Prince Puma (Ricochet on the Indies) to Drago to Fenix to Ivelisse (remember her?, yeah she's killing it too....) and Sexy Star....

I'm impressed...and curious to see where everything goes....

The product has great production value. I've not been this interested in wrestling since the attitude era of wrestling launched. I won't clutter up the tv thread with any wrestling threads, there's really only ROH left anyways....

Vampiro helped save some guy's life.

The wrestling is really good on Lucha Underground, but their production ruins everything for me. The vignettes are just so kitsch.

I think that's great! Vampiro is a pretty alright dude. He's excellent on commentary and those backstage interviews. I like how he comes across to other villains and doesn't back down. I like the production values, it has a different vibe to it than normal. I do get how not many would like that style though. The wrestling and the writing remain the best on television. I love NJPW on AXS but that's more a best of series and not so easy to follow overall storylines. The commentators do their best, but for overall quality L.U. has got it...

Finally, got around to watching the latest episode this week!

spoiler alert....

Overall....amazing show!

Match #1 - Angelico vs. Ivelisse with Son of Havoc as Guest Referee.

A lot of good spots and avoiding any massive one-sided nature in the match. I may not be sold on intergender matches, but Ivelisse can go and Angelico has natural talent in the ring. It was a fun match. spoiler ahead.
[Show spoiler]Angelico won the match in a very well done way. Trying to kick Son of Havoc, idiot moved so Ivelisse got the kick....brewing up the story pretty good here. Angelico and Ivelisse, if they pair up, would be an excellent duo....

Match #2 - Pentagon Jr. vs. Argenis

Excellent, fast paced match can't go wrong with either of these guys. The high spots were few and far between, but it was well contested and paced.
[Show spoiler] Pentagon Jr. won by submission with his sick Arm Bar and then "broke" Argenis arm. I like this story they have with Pentagon Jr. Very unique look, very talented in the ring....I do think he could add some more base to his promo's and aggressiveness. However, he's a star in the making and the crowd is behind him and so am I. Zero Miedo!

Match #3 - Johnny Mundo (formerly Morrison) vs. King Cuerno in a cage match.

Match of the night. Each of the matches before hand built up and up with this as the crescendo of the night. This match delivered! No a moment of dullness in a cage match.
[Show spoiler]Mundo delivered a sick Starship Pain (End of the World in L.U) to a standing King Cuerno in an amazing spot to end the match.

In backstage vignettes....

Konnan, is building a sick looking new cane to walk and fight with. He's coming for revenge.

Mil Muertes and Fenix, their lady friend is playing with both their minds and their past, present and future.

Left hanging from previous weeks....

Who the hell was the guy imprisoned under the temple, they either they want locked up or others want dead.....

Alberto el Patron and Texana are a fun segway to AAA. Curious to see more of that!

They are absolutely killing it with great matches week in and week out. I saw their Twitter feed last night and every match had some pretty sick spots.

Since nobody wants to talk about non-wwe in the main wrestling thread I don;t expect any replies here but did anybody watch Ultima Lucha? Off the ****ing hook. Can't wait for the 2 hour finale next week.

I've watched bits and pieces. Like some of John Morrison's matches. I see ADR has finally found his footing. I like their backstage stuff. Great stuff. WWE made a mistake letting Maxine go. It's a cool show.

Just watched the first couple of episodes of this, it's obvious they are still trying to work out the kinks - the commentary is abysmal - but if the best is still yet to come, then just WOW. I love WWE, with all of its polish and so on but I do also think it takes itself way too seriously in trying to look like a legitimate combat sport. So many bruisers on the roster now which do little more than bowl people either. This is in stark contrast to the deliberately ridiculous Lucha Underground where even gangbangers move like Rey Mysterio. It has attitude era WWF politics and I love that it's structure like a TV show with the fantasy plot of the battles of the Aztec clans and the modern kind of Tekken/King of Fighters/Fight Club dynamic of the battles.

I'm a huge fan of Lucha Underground. They're doing a lot of things right and their matches blow the stale WWE matches away. MOTY so far tonight between Mil Muertes, Prince Puma, and Pentagon Jr.

I actually watch Lucha Underground live and watch NXT and Arrow later on Wednesday nights. The matches are so exciting even for the lesser know workers. Love the Spanish Soap Opera drama of the segments/promo's as well, so over dramatically cheesy, it's great.

Still mixed on the women competing with the men. Watching the Cage/Taya match a few weeks ago was tough, he really beat the snot out of her. On the other hand, Ivelisse works with the men really well.

My favorite are Melissa the ring announcer , Johnny Mundo (WWE wasted him so badly), Dario (best authority figure in wrestling right now), and Cage (Weapon X is awesome).

That was one of the best "hardcore" style matches I've seen in a very long time. Those guys put on a helluva match. At one point I thought....Marty's really owning his character.... I think this match elevated both guys tremendously. I have much respect for this roster!
