Default Wonder Years

Yes, the Wonder Years.....another tv holdout to the world of digital. I know it probably has something to do with all the music licenses.......but has anyone heard anything new about this wonderful show being put to dvd?

From what I've read the music rights are bad enough and the sales projections too low to justify ever releasing this.

I would disagree on the sales projections. There are many a tv shows released every week that completely suck. The Wonder Years, for the most part...was a great show and popular when it was out. I would think it would do well. I think its totally the music that is holding it up.

I've heard of other shows changing the music. I guess that's not an option here?

Man, I hope they dont change the music.

That was the reason why I didnt buy WKRP in Cinci...the music was changed...and I love that show.

Funny how Miami Vice gets to keep the tons of music in its show intact...but other tv shows have difficulties w/ the music.

Oh well..sooner or later it will get released.

As I would also like to have this released on DVD asap. I prefer to wait till they can release it as originally aired. To change the music would take away so much from this show. The music is so much a part of the story lines as the actual story line itself. I'll patiently wait for it's proper release.

They did this to Happy Days. All the classic 50's music has been replaced by Kenny-G type instumental stuff. Changes the whole mood of an episode.

I heard to save cost they would be removing the narration.

The music rights are the only thing holding this back.

I remember seeing Punky Brewster a little grown up on that show. It was before she got the breast reduction.

For those of you who don't yet know, Fabulous Films in the UK has released a set with 100% of the original music (except they accidentally left the Netflix intro music on one Season 2 episode). If you haven't bought yet, buy that one instead! Video is 24fps/NTSC and all the special features are carried over. The US set has no benefits in any way.

They've also been quoted to say that a Blu-ray release is possible if sales are good enough!

It has performed as expected in this climate, it is not cheap, as it cost a fortune to license and a fortune to clear and produce. It is great value and a brilliant gift, packed with 23 hours of bonus features and it should perform well over christmas. If it ends up doing well it could end up on Blu-ray, there are no plans in the US or UK for the foreseeable future though.

re-watched the entire series on netflix and loved every episode. the quality of the episodes was a bit suspect though.

If a Blu-ray release is possible then I'll definitely import it regarding of price. I highly doubt a Blu-ray release is coming to the states though, too many tv shows these days only get a DVD release
