Default HDDVD offer

Please do not flame me if this has been posted already. I recently recieved two blu-ray movies in the mail that I ordered from Amazon. As I looked through the advertisements in the box, I was shocked to find a flyer that would save me $100 on a Hd-dvd player and get 7 free movies. I thought Amazons whole deal was personalized marketing. In short, if I am ordering Blu-ray movies then why the f*** would I want an ad for HD-DVD polluting my package. Do you guys think this is an intentional effort to sway people from Blu to red or does Amazon just see hi-def as hi-def?

You already own one next-gen player so in the eyes of Amazon's marketing department you're probably far more likely than their average customer to purchase the other format as well. I'd wager that on balance that view is probably not far off the mark.

Amazon also lists HD DVDs in my Gold Box Quick-picks list, even though I have purchased over 100 blu-rays from them without a single HD DVD purchase. Pisses me off.

I've ordered almost all of my movies from Amazon.com and don't remember getting any HD DVD ads. I guess it's because they won't ship hardware to Canada though.

I got one with my last batch of Blu-Rays. I sent an e-mail to there customer service saying I had bought over 50 Blu-Rays from them in less than 6 months. I continued that I had never even clicked on any page related to HD DVD and if they wanted my continued service they would lay off the HD DVD adds.

Now to be honest, it doesn't really bother me. But my e-mail was a little more strongly worded than what I described, because I'm angling for a gift card or something.

the ads might be from Amazon, but they are paid for by the manufacturers/studios advertised. Yes it is annoying to see HD DVD so desperate that they pollute everything, but talke it this way, they are wasting $ and it is falling on death ears.

Yeah, usually I don't look at the ads that come with amazon shipping box either. I just get my movies and throw away the rest immediately.
