So glad there's a thread for this!

I've been a fan since 2007! I contributed to this movie, can't wait to finally watch it. Don't know whether to watch VOD now, or just buy the Blu-ray in a couple months.

Watched it yesterday, it was pretty good. I thought it was maybe ten minutes too long, clocking in at just under two hours which is definitely long for a movie of this type, but fans will be pleased, no doubt. I'll be grabbing the Blu!

Wasn't a fan. It's pretty telling that my girlfriend, whom I just showed the Super Mario Bros. movie to for the first time (with RiffTrax no less), said to me, "Mario Bros. is a 4 out of 5 star movie compared to this." It wrenched my gut because she's absolutely right.

Sadly, the movie is too self-aware to the point of groaning and eyerolling rather than something done for laughs. It's as if Rolfe and Finn set out to make an intentionally cheesy movie rather than a solid B-movie that holds its own.

The jokes also strike me as less funny and more pandering to what they perceived an audience would enjoy. Rife with cliches, bad lines, and flat characters that are comparable to Scary Movie 3.

The Nerd's review of EeeTee 2 at the end where he says that purposefully making a bad game to one-up the original only comes off as disingenuous compared to the legend of the unintentionally bad game steeped in great history, pretty much sums up how I feel about the movie: the web episodes (which I've watched since 2007 or '08) are the genuine article; the movie is a bad play on that, an insincere homage with none of the flavor which makes "the original" so great.

I'm excited to see more new AVGN episodes and other feature and short films from Rolfe, but I hope his proper movie debut is not indicative of what's to come.

All that said, I might buy the Blu-ray out of fanboy loyalty but more importantly for the behind-the-scenes movie, which I suspect will be vastly more interesting than the movie itself.

I love his video game reviews but the movie looks dumb in my opinion.

Watched it last night and thought it was good for what it was. It did start to drag on and some of the dialogue could have been better. I really wish Mike or even Pat was his sidekick in the movie instead of the kid they got to play the part. The army chick was horrible. I'll buy the bluray and give it another watch when it comes out.

I'd like to see him get into a horror film since that's what he really enjoys. Even if it's not his movie.

I'm very happy for James Rolfe. I've been a fan of his since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES review and like pretty much everything he has done so far. With the AVGN, Monster Madness, Godzillathon, and the Jersey Odysseys there's no question in my mind that he's very talented. I wish him the best. I remember he said he wanted to make more Jersey Odysseys stuff, and maybe now he'll be able to.

His short horror film The Deader the Better is really good.

I also would have preferred to see Mike Matei as his assistant in the film. The guy they got was outrageously annoying.

Will be getting the Blu-Ray release. Been a fan of the Nerd for a long time now and really want to see what he managed to do with the huge donations he got to fund the film.

The earlier episodes had lots of movie clips, which had to be removed for the DVD releases, but the later episodes and later DVD sets had no cuts.

...how can any of us convince James Rolfe to add English Subtitles for his upcoming home video release?

I'm looking forward to picking it up and checking it out.

I donated a small amount (I think $10) to funding it, so I am looking forward to seeing the final product.

Maybe contact him through his website and ask him?

I wouldn't count on it happening, though. The discs are probably going to be a rather independent fair, and I'm guessing won't be distributed through a major studio. Something as seemlingly simple as subtitling can add a lot of time, effort, and cost to an independent release like this. I could be wrong and for those who want it, I hope it happens, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it. Not to mention that the manufacturing process may already be underway. If susbtitles are not already part of the planned final product, it may be too late to add them.

Besides, the target audience for this is going to mainly be the people who watch his videos online. Those don't have subtitles. So I don't see why adding them to this movie would be a priority.

I like AVGN. Interested in this although hearing it's two hours does make me pause. This seems like the kind of thing that should be 90 minutes.

I'm happy for James. All we need now is for Doug Walker to make his own feature film. If you've seen his Nostalgia Critic videos where he lists his top 11 and compares a classic and a remake, you can see how the man breathes cinema. His analysises are really good. He can translate that to making a great film.

He makes up for it by including exclusive footage in those episodes on the DVDs. You lose some, you gain some, and the episodes are still available online, and those earliest ones have only recently been getting uploaded in higher quality to better match the DVDs.

The AVGN DVDs are some of my most prized possessions. I just hope they start doing Blu-rays now that they're all shot in HD, but nevertheless the extras make them worth owning on their own.
