Has anyone managed to get a proper colour balance for these with their TVs and what do you reccomend? My tv and my parent's can't sort it out
The titles include Dragon Inn, Touch of Zen, Bloodstained Butterfly, Lucio Fucli's The Black Cat etc... |

Unfortunately there is no easy fix, although the effects can be remedied by using brightness/gamma settings to darken the washed out blacks (actually grey) and putting the TV on 'cool' mode to help combat the yellow tint which are usually blanket applied so it will still look ugly.
The best thing to do would be for consumers to bring up this issue more often for the companies to see so they will either stop using Ritrovata for remasters or perform extensive color correction on them after Ritrovata has made a mess of them. Arrow started trying to fix them but could only get so far (see Deep Red), but the colorist for SF's two new Bruce Lee releases managed to virtually undo the telltale Ritrovata effects which I didn't think was possible. The more attention this issue gets, the better. |
