Closest you will get right now is importing your collection to VUDU for a small fee you can upgrade the version of the disc.

I think it would be more from the studio almost like a add-on for video games. Pay $10 for the UHD disc as an example possibly if you redeemed the digital right for the blu-ray.

Movies still have the little proof of purchase tag on them, all we'd need to do is cut that tag off and send it in.

You know how much effort that would take from their part to track all that? At that point they just wouldn't do a trade in. A simple add-on for digital is the easiest path for them. Physical upgrades could be done but I would see it as a $5 discount more than a $5 upgrade cost that digital would have. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Warner had a trade in program not too long after blu-ray launch, Warner's DVD2BLU probably got me 50 of my first 100 blu-rays. It was actually a sweeter deal, because some of those blu-rays were still $20 at the time (2007-2008 ish), and through that program you could get them for $4.95 shipped. At first you had to trade the same movie, but before Best Buy had their deal Warner had already opened it up to "any DVD". Best Buy's program worked best with discs that had already been dropped to $9.99 exactly (thereby allowing you to get them for $4.99). Fortunately when it was going strong (2010-2011?) there was plenty of selection among $10 blu-rays. As much as I'd love to be able to start buying UHD 4K discs cheaply. I'm not sure it's quite as practical this time around. No way on the Warner type mail in program, but I also don't see Best Buy doing this again. Last time they were hoping to push blu-ray to be as big as DVD. Probably no such delusions this time around. Though at the same time, I'm sure there will eventually be some marketing push and deals to try and force more adoption. I'm just not sure they will be as substantial as the blu-ray trade programs. Once there are more releases and more competition among players, I can definitely see some "Buy our UHD player, get X number of free movies" type of promos. |

Just this past weekend I was cleaning out a closet and found a bunch of old WB DVD cases that only had disc 2 in them, and couldn't remember why. You've just jogged my memory. |
