Default Changing movie tastes

I got into blu-ray when I was about 21 and now (at 26) I find my movie tastes have changed rather drastically. I suppose we all grow and change, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that I no longer enjoy about half my movies. Its actually a little sad though that titles i used to love have lost their magic. Can anyone relate to this?

I don't find that sad at all - just think of the new films you will now appreciate more! Maybe you could sell the films you no longer enjoy in order to get new ones? That way you will not be lumbered with unwanted films and will keep your collection fresh and relevant.

Thats a good way of looking at it ... I hope my tastes are changing though, and I'm not just becoming more critical =P

But ya, I've been trading and selling on here. Gonna start posting some movies on eBay.

I think a better word is discerning. That's a good thing - you're growing up!

This has totally happened with me, more with dvds I got in my early 20s than recent blu-rays. I've found that it's best to just sell things you no longer need so you have room for new things. Both ebay and half.com have worked out well for me. I find blu-ray got cheaper way faster than dvd did in the late 90s, and I have acquired so many titles over the last few years. I'm sure there will be several of those titles that I'll never view more than once. My tastes have shifted more towards older movies anyway.

I know that feel.

I used to collect war movies, bought 200-300 when I was 12 - 16 years old (als a lot of westerns and other classics), but in the past year I haven't bought a lot of war movies. Only a few, while my interest for 80's classics, sci-fi and horror is growing .

I didn't care for dramatic titles a decade ago and now look at me. The majority if my collection consists of dramas. One thing's for sure I have always hated anime and most horror and I am probably taking those feelings to the grave.

This is one of the reasons why it's better to rent than to buy movies.

For your sake, hopefully it's not just a phase you're going through. It'd be rough if in say, a year from now, you want to watch the movies you traded away.

If anything, I've broaden my tastes in movies, there aren't many cases where I've stopped liking a movie that I used to love. Well, mainly horror stuff that just seems kind of campy now.

I can relate. In fact, just recently I've noticed that I cannot stomach lackluster sequels/prequels at all, even though I used to defend many of them as "not so bad", and I purchased many.

After watching some of those films in recent years (Alien 3 & 4, Predator 2, BTTF 2 & 3, Indiana Jones 2, 3, & 4, etc), I've found that I now have come to the realization that most all of these films suck outright.

The bigger problem? The films I do enjoy I've seen sooo many times, that my blu-ray player is starting to cool down after a few years of intense use. What do I watch? Very little, though I own hundreds and hundreds of films.

There's so many box sets in my collection that I wish I'd waited for single discs of, it's not even funny.

I'm beginning to get bored with films, for the most part. I used to go to the show nearly every week (or more, back when I was a teenager). These days, I may go 3 or 4 times a year. Now, part of the reason for that is the advent of home theater gear; my HT is at least equal (likely superior) to my local cinema, P/A quality-wise. The other reason? I'm bored, for the most part.

My taste in certain types of movies is pretty broad thankfully. I've probably become less cynical about movies as I've gotten older, unless most remakes/reboots(A new Spider-man origin movie, really?!), Michael Bay, or Channing Tatum (ugh) are involved. Eh, I might still be as cynical...

I've only ever bought movies I know I'll enjoy again and again for years to come. I can honestly say I could see myself watching every movie I have again, except maybe for some of my wife's.

I think my movie tastes have changed for the better. I used to be a person who would always enjoy whatever I watched, but once I started getting into older classics and foreign films (think John Ford, Hitchcock, Kurosawa, Truffaut), I noticed I could no longer tolerate bad movies. It almost seems kind of sad, because it was nice to watch something and not regret it or wish I had the time back.

I too hate Channing Tatum! He can't act his way around a tree stump. I can't wait until he gets old and kicked out of Hollywood!

Why do you ask questions to which you already know the answer?

Some movies can be seen many times and some movies can only be seen once or twice.

Movie tastes change though, as I am now 32, I doubt mine will change that much anymore though.

My taste in films has varied over the years. I find myself getting into certain "moods" when it comes to watching films and these moods can lasts weeks or even months.

Lately I've been wanting to watch action/sci-fi films. I DID watch Stand By Me the other night though

I'm 34 and my tastes changed during the DVD era (action/comedy then adding on dramas and documentaries). Now I'm more interested in which titles I will see many times and which I could not see for decades. I like many movies but loving movies leads to more discernment.
