Is there no thread for this? Search came up empty.
Anyway, just got back from this. It's fun. My kids and I really enjoyed it. 3.5/5. Really liked Tulip, the wolves, and the baby. The pigeon was just dumb and anmoying, especially the voice. I would rank it below several other animated films so far for 2016, but that just shows what a good year it's been for animation. Kubo and the Two Strings > Zootopia > Kung Fu Panda 3 > Storks > > Secret Life of Pets > > > Angry Birds > > > > Sausage Party ...havent seen Finding Dory, Ice Age, or Ratchet and Clank yet. So I misread and thought Hollywood had finally made a movie adaptation for this:
I really have nothing else to add, but now I have the Snorks theme song in my head. |

I went in with pretty low expectations myself, but I was pleasantly surprised. ![]() Last edited by cinemaphile; 09-10-2016 at 09:42 PM. |

I didn't see Pets, and had zero expectations for this. It met those expectations, but did not exceed them.
I just thought that it was a really hollow exercise, and they whiffed the opportunity to highlight what family means to all of the characters. |

My wife got an email from AMC a few weeks ago for a free early viewing of this, but by the time she responded everything was full. This was the first time we got an offer like this, but apparently they book almost immediately.
Nonetheless, still want to see it, even if we have to pay. ![]() |

This is definitely NOT Kubo or Zootopia, not by any stretch, and dialogue really needed a polish in places (for humor's sake if nothing else), but there are some great moments.
Wolves (and their teamwork), StorkCon, spheres, silent penguin fights, CornerStore.com, "role model for 2 years", and putting baby to sleep are some of the better highlights of the film. The movie also does a nice job of bringing home the ending. If the movie had been slightly less obnoxious, and slightly more polished, I would have given it an 8/10. As-is, similar to Secret Life of Pets, a weak 7/10. |

Shame this seems to be flying under the radar. I really enjoyed it and it's another win for Nicholas Stoller - whose movies I almost unanimously love - and I thought it was genuinely hilarious with just enough heart to ground it.
I could see many people being turned off by the frenetic energy and the constant barrage of crazy but I really responded to it and thought much of the humor, like any good cartoon, was grounded yet exaggerated. And it's really not much different from The Lego Movie in that regard. The only thing it's missing is that overarching message. It doesn't have the depth of Zootopia or Kubo, but it really doesn't need (or try) to and it has an identity, consistency, and focus that I thought was missing from The Secret Life of Pets. Also: the Pigeon was a huge swing and miss. |

The funniest film of the year, sure it's not Kubo levels of amazing animation, but the characters were memorable, the humor is laugh out loud hilarious and the closest to classic Looney Tunes style of humor in such a long time that it's super refreshing, I cared for the characters, and the film even got me emotional. And all of this without mentioning the amazing animation, which is fantastic. In terms of comedic animation, this one is one of the best in years, and it didn't rely too much on pop culture (though Pigeon Toady's cover of "How You Like Me Now" I found freaking hilarious, especially when the subtitles kicked in.) or crude, juvenile humor, it's just funny cartoon slapstick and reactions, and that's something animation hasn't done is such a long time. The only flaw I'd say about the film is Pigeon Toady, he either hits (the previously mentioned song scene) or falls flat on the floor through the earth's crust. But besides that, Storks is another winner for Warner Bros. Animation.
Highly recommend this film for families or everyone in general. 4.5/5 (rounded up to 4 on poll.) Last edited by CrazyBlu-RayFan; 10-12-2016 at 10:57 PM. |
