just bought a new Epson 2040 projector
I hooked it up to my Yamaha aventage 3030 avr when I try to watch cable, images flashes on and off and then goes completely blank if I connect the projector directly to the cable box, image is great when I try to watch blue ray, no image/blank/black screen all connections are HDMI HDMI run from AVR to projector is 35' any suggestions |

I'd initially say find an extended distance cable, one that's certified for the length run you have or greater. also, do you have a 1080p hdtv you can connect to the receiver using the same 35' cable and if so, do you have the same issues? keep us posted. |

I connected the 35' cable directly to the cable box and image is stable, looks great
I didn't connect to the blue ray since I figured results would be the same as the cable box test |

I disconnected the 35' hdmi and moved the projector up to the avr and connected it with a 5' hdmi, same issue blinking on and off, so it doesn't seem to be an issue of the avr not liking the 35' cable

Two years ago, I experienced the same problem routing an Apple TV3 through an Aventage avr to my Epson 5030 projector. But if I turned the avr off and on the problem ceased. I assumed this was an hdmi handshake issue, changed the order in which the remote turned on my various components, and the problem went away. Unfortunately, I no longer use the Apple TV3, and forget the original order and what I changed it to. But if switching your avr off and on fixes the problem, you might experiment with the order in which you power up your components. Good luck.
