Default The Peanut Butter Solution...

Does anybody besides me remember the movie called The Peanut Butter Solution? My memory of it is pretty vague but its something about a kid that loses all of his hair and he gets this recipe for hair growth that the main ingredient is peanut butter. Something goes wrong and his hair starts to grow very rapidly and won't stop and he winds up getting kidnapped and whoever is holding him captive is using his hair to mass produce human hair paintbrushes.

The reason I ask is because a bunch of friends and I got on the topic of childhood movies the other night around a bonfire and I brought up this movie. Everyone thought I was absolutely crazy because the plot is ridiculous and I was slightly inebriated while telling the story.

Yep, they showed this low budget gem on Nickelodeon back in the 80's when it was a cool channel to watch! This never made to DVD, so the VHS version is OOP and quite rare. SOME TRIVIA, a relatively unknown Celine Dion did the songs for the film!

I had the same inebriated discussion recently. I didn't remember it was on Nickelodeon though. Thanks for that piece of info. Here's a link to the trailer on youtube.

It looks like the whole movie is put up there in parts if you really want to revisit your younger days.

Celine Dion? That's so random....you would think she would demand this movie be released on a more current format. Ha!

By the way...thanks for reaffirming my sanity Billy Jack.

It's a Canadian movie made in 1985. Was fairly popular here in the 80's but then slowly went away. It's usually show on Tele Quebec at Christmas time. Back then Celine was nothing more then a very local celebrity. Also she cannot demand anything on the release of this movie.

There is a rumor currently here in Canada that the movie will be remade, some writers are working on a script.

Of course it is...its a movie from the 80's. I wish studios would stop doing this...I'm looking at you Karate Kid On the bright side I suppose we would probably see the original released on blu to coincide with the theatrical release of the remake.

Dude I loved this movie and searched for it for years after I only saw half of it in 1987 when I was in the 3rd grade. The part I remember all the kids laughing at when I was in school was when his little friend put the solution down his pants and the hair started growing out of his pant legs lol! I googled it and found the movie online back in 2005. Cool movie!

I remember seeing this slightly disturbing movie on Nickelodeon only once when I was around the age of 4 or 5. Despite forgetting the plot and name of the movie, certain scenes have been stuck in my memory ever since. I only recently rediscovered this film.

If you go on the imdb message board you'll see that there's a ton of other people who were scarred by this movie as kids. It must have some incredibly powerful imagery for so many people to remember such an obscure film for all of these years.

It's on youtube if anybody is interested.

When I was a young, Nick had some great stuff: (examples)

The Adventures of Black Beauty (I have BOTH seasons on Reg 2 DVD's which contain complete uncut episodes, since the US version from Image are freakin shorter sydicated versions that each like 2-3 min shorter)
Yoiu Cant Do That On Television
Mr Wizard's World
Belle and Sebastian
Double Dare
Out Of Control
Lassie (original 50's series)
obscure feature films
the saturday concert (U2 live at Red Rocks, Bob Welch live in concert, etc, good stuff not even on dvd!)
even worse, NONE of these are on DVD, except The Adventues of Black Beauty
sadly they show pretty much junk now

this is one of the most popular episodes of Black Beauty, "Out of the Night": A HALLOWEEN EPISODE (reminiscent of Hammer Horror, the squire is played by Michael Culver, Needa in the film The Empire Strikes Back, and Willam Lucas (Dr. Gordon) was in several Hammer films)

Holy crap! I remember this movie too!

The weird thing is, I don't remember seeing it, but I remember recalling seeing it - if that makes sense.

I remember it used to scare me when I watched it on CBC.

Hogan wasn't quite up to par as his Battlestar Galactica character. lol

Productions La Fête is currently working on transferring the 'Tales For All' films to HD. Rock Demers, producer of 'The Peanut Butter Solution', let me know that the films might be released to HD-DVD soon. I let him know that it's a way defunct format.
