Disney Raya and the Last Dragon (2021) [No 3D Blu-ray] [Digital only - AVP]

Disney's new film 'Raya and the Last Dragon' will be hitting screens worldwide and on Disney+ simultaneously only in the US.

It will be released on March 5, 2021, in RealD 3D and IMAX formats.

Here in the UAE, there are plenty of 3D shows starting from March 4.

What do you guys think?

Taylor made scenes for 3D in the trailer. Great reviews so far.

I pray for a 3D blu-ray release.

I think 3D for Di$ney is being a legend and history.

I'm still very mad at Di$ney's given up 3D on Soul.

Today is Tuesday, and no showings yet at my Cinemark theaters. I thought for a minute this was another Disney + only Mulan situation from Disney's anti-theater stance.

Chaos Walking isn't something I want to see in theaters, but this film I'd go out of my way to visit the theater for the heck of it hoping it's in 3D. Disney 3D is slightly better than Pixar's mild 3D, with mostly medium 3D layers in their 3D films from Disney CGI animation.

Raya will hopefully get a 3D showtime but I am very doubtful of that at my theaters who neglected 3D shows for the last 3D film Monster Hunter. I wrote to them to get 3D films back in theaters too but I don't think they'll listen.

Here's hoping for 3D showings in all theaters that have 3D projectors for this Friday's Raya Last Dragon Premiere.

This film looks sort of interesting. If there are martial arts, that will hopefully be as good as Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2.

Looks like AMC will not be playing Raya in 3D (here in the US).

Regal theaters remain closed.

Deadline is reporting that Cinemark has chosen not to play Raya at all.

Disney in their curtain raiser note reported that Raya will play in 3D at 160 locations.

Yeah, just 160 out of over 2000 locations are having 3D showings. Seems very similar to what happened with Croods and Wonder Woman (no 3D showings for those either at AMC as far as I could tell) and basically means I have to see these titles in 2D theatrically.

Yes, it seems AMC has entirely dropped 3D showings across the United States since the pandemic started. Hopefully over time AMC will return to including 3D showtimes.

Yeah, it looks like they've completely abandoned the Blu-ray 3D format, not even an MOD release.

I really hope 'Black Widow' Blu-ray 3D is not affected by this, and that Marvel continues to bring their films on Blu-ray 3D.

Thank you for the info.
That really stinks. Cinemark was not happy with Disney's handling of Mulan which avoided theaters. Disney is known to also charge theaters more for showing Disney brand films. So theaters aren't too thrilled with Disney I imagine, even though Disney films are a big draw for theater crowds.

Even so, if Cinemark chose to show this film, I would've went to see it. I won't pay to see it on TV as my interest was only mild in this film.

Eventually I'll consider subscribing temporarily to Disney Plus to watch Obi Wan Kenobi the series and the Mandalorian and other Star Wars content exclusive to that pay channel, but after watching it, I'll drop the subscription, since Disney refuses to offer these shows on blu ray discs.

Yeah, Regal is still closed. That really stinks. They're facing Bankruptcy I heard. Cinemark managed to have enough money to keep them afloat it seems.

The only new movie that is starting this Friday is Chaos Walking, and Tom and Jerry from last week. Both movies I'm not too sure about seeing, even though I support my theater with prior films. With Raya not playing at all in my area, not a great boost for theaters.

Disney Plus is charging $30 to rent this Raya movie. What a ripoff, considering it's a rental and you don't even get a disc.

Just saw this at the theater, but not in 3D - oh but I'd definitely rewatch it to see the 3D effects

It's hard to believe they would try to make money and sell a 3D version.

Please please please be released on Blu-ray 3D.

And do the same for Soul.

I’m still kind of hoping that as the pandemic situation continues to improve - perhaps slightly less focus on streaming as a primary method for content delivery - streaming service content that is becoming older (in other words, no longer a primary draw for subscribers since it’s replaced by newer content) will receive physical release on Blu-ray.

Contact Disney about this and they say this every single time:

Thank you for your email. Disney currently has no plans for future Blu-ray 3D releases at this time. We thank you very much for your feedback and will share your comments with the rest of our team.

I requested for at least an MOD release, but they don't seem to care about it at all.

Someone really needs to hit them on the head and make them understand the hard work that goes in to convert these films in 3D, and ultimately make these films available on Blu-ray 3D and not just for the theatrical release. They're absolutely lazy and one-dimensional.

Thank you for your email. We value your interest in Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment!

Raya and the Last Dragon is currently unavailable and no release date on disc has been set. We would be happy to share with the rest of our team that you would like to have this available for purchase in 3D! Your feedback helps us build a better experience for all of our guests and is truly appreciated!

Another one of their tactics to promise you something and leave you with nothing, because I've got the same message before, however it could be possible to see this on Blu-ray 3D. Really hoping for a good result in the end.

Anything is possible, but given Disney's track record when it comes to 3D Blu-rays it's worth seeking this out theatrically if you can.

That's the thing. I'm not able to watch Disney's 3D releases at the cinemas due to COVID, and I'm still stuck in school and exams and all that garbage. The fact that you can't get to watch your desired film in 3D at home because of Disney's scummy practices is an absolute bummer.

But yeah, as you've said, anything is possible, and I really hope 'Raya and the Last Dragon' is a start for Blu-ray 3D releases in 2021, followed by 'Black Widow' and future Marvel films.
