It's a lot like Crackle (as far as the ads go) but with better movies.

Yeah, a Walmart employee actually told me about it last week. I was chatting him up about the Blu-ray "reset", and he (out of the blue) started promoting it...

Quote:
"Do you use VUDU?"

"Yeah"

"Well, now you can get a LOT of movies on VUDU for free...you just have to watch a few commercials. Like, 2 or 3 per movie, so it's not bad."

"Great! I'll check it out."

"Oh, and..."

"Sorry, I have to go."

I have yet to try streaming any movie I don't already own, but it sounds like a good trade-off.

Is it really only 2-3 commercials per movie? That would place it miles ahead of the other free services (Crackle, Tubi TV, etc.).

I'm sure he was "puffing" it up. As I said, I haven't tried, but I definitely will...

Even if it's 1 commercial for every 15-20 minutes of a movie (doubling what the guy told me on average), that's OK by me for free...

I think he said something like 500-600 movies were eligible right now!...Lookling at the "genres" they offer, it's not easy to tell if titles are cross-listed...but there are A LOT!

It's actually a little more than 2-3. I tested True Grit and it was like 2-3 every 18 minutes or so. but free is free

Yeah, there's a nice selection of free movies.

Some quick recommendations:

- Jeff, Who Lives at Home
- A Walk to Remember (own this on DVD)
- The Beaver
- D.A.R.Y.L. (own this on DVD)
- Out of Time (own this on DVD)
- The Fighting Temptations (own this on DVD - recent Goodwill find)
- 100 Girls (own this on DVD)
- Pete's Christmas (own this on Blu-ray, DVD, and UV/VUDU)
- Hunk (childhood favorite, so no idea how it holds up - own it in one of those budget sets)
- Klown (shockingly raunchy foreign flick)

As always, check Netflix, Hulu, etc. - whatever other commercial-free streaming services you might subscribe to - before watching anything on VUDU.

I might try The Monitor soon, which isn't on any of the aforementioned ad-free services but is on other freebie services with commercials like Tubi. I've been meaning to watch it for a while.

I remember 100 Girls being fantastic, but I was ten years younger when I saw it. Worth a shot for free.

Hunk is about a schlub who sells his soul to the devil to become - you guessed it - a hunk. As a kid, I thought Gene Wilder played the schlub - don't ask me why. It never entered my mind to question why he'd be slumming it in something like this. Even back then, I noticed the plot holes you could drive a truck through. But everyone my age saw and loved the movie. It's good, goofy fun. Whether I'd still like it, who knows.

Another recommendation:

- Klown (shockingly raunchy foreign flick)

D.A.R.Y.L. is such a fun movie...

Just another on the list of favorites from the era (e.g. Flight of the Navigator, Explorers...) that need a US BD release!

PS: Ew...I'll look at Klown another time. I'm in a certain, non-Klown mode.

I watched D.A.R.Y.L. and Cloak & Dagger on DVD a month or so ago. Great '80s fun. Explorers and Flight of the Navigator are also great. You'd think at least Mill Creek would put some of them out.

Definitely not something that would ever be made in the USA.

So weird, I was having a conversation with another friend about this movie, and then it started popping up on HBO!

In fact (for those that have it), it's playing in a few hours on the HBO Family (East) channel at 4:05 a.m.

Set your DVRs!

You don't have to DVR HBO. You can use HBO GO and not waste your DVR space. 99.999% of programs, tv shows, and movies that air on live HBO channels are on HBO Go. I have unlimited data and 135MBs down and 6MBs up with Charter so I have the bandwidth.

I was trying to find this section using the app on Xbox One but couldn't find it. I'll try again later.
