I just got Touch of Evil on blu ray and it’s contains three different versions. This a very popular noir, so I though I’d try to find out which version is most popular and why.
Theatrical- This version of the film was seen by U.S. audiences when it was released in theaters in 1958. (93 minutes) Preview- Created prior to the theatrical version, this cut of the film contains some of Orson Welles’ requests and was re-discovered by Universal in 1976. (108 minutes) Reconstructed- Re-edited in 1998, this definitive cut of the film is reconstructed to Orson Welles’ original vision based on his detailed 58-page memo to the studio. (111 minutes) |
