A24 (via Lionsgate) will be releasing Sofia Coppola's Priscilla (2023) on Blu-ray on February 13th. No info on extras yet.

That's what worries me, if they'd just do a standard 4k release I'd be all over this, but I won't pay for a fancy edition, I only do that for movies I REALLY REALLY love, and since this a blind buy I just can't spend that much. Sadly I assume that means I'll stick with this, once the price comes down, since $40 is too expensive for a bluray, even though I really want to see this in 4k.

Down to a more reasonable $24.99 at Amazon. tt'll probably drop further as most Lionsgate releases tend to do, but doesn't hurt to lock that in.

As much as I love Sofia Coppola, I don't think they'll do a 4K Collector's Edition of this. The Bling Ring celebrated a decade last year and they didn't even release merch like they did for Spring Breakers (which I thought was weaker). |

Everything Everywhere All At Once is the most obvious to get a 4K re-release given all the success and awards. The Lighthouse has become a cult film (and everyone knew it had an old-school style aesthetic that would benefit from 4K & HDR). Midsommar had the benefit of being the first 4K release of theirs through their own label, and I feel that was mostly because it was the director's cut. The Last Black Man in San Francisco was a surprise, and Green Knight had a lot of hype before its release, and has since also become a cult film of theirs as well. My point is that each 4K re-release kind of has a "point" (TLBMiSF doesn't make sense to me, but I welcome any 4K over a standard Blu-ray). I loved Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, and its cinematography would benefit from a 4K release. Plus its Harris Savides' last film. But I don't see that getting released anytime soon. It would be awesome if they released Sofia's films on 4K (I believe On the Rocks was a co-production with Apple). Heck, Euphoria is 4K with Dolby Vision on HBO Max, but they haven't released it on 4K yet (or the scripts for the specials and Season 2). Basically I'm saying it kind of sucks they pick and choose what gets released on 4K. I'm glad Marcel the Shell and Aftersun got their standard 4K releases, and that gives me hope they will put more effort into 4K home media, but yeah I'm not holding out for Priscilla. Which is why I bought it today. And apparently the code is VUDU only so I'll probably sell it and the DVD to make up for the cost. |
