USA Priscilla Blu-ray (A24 Films)

A24 (via Lionsgate) will be releasing Sofia Coppola's Priscilla (2023) on Blu-ray on February 13th. No info on extras yet.

Quote:
In 1959, 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) was an Army kid with a stepdad stationed in West Germany when she met a new draftee 10 years her senior--Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi). Their turbulent and controversial relationship, from her becoming his live-in girlfriend as a high school senior to their eventual but troubled six-year marriage, is tellingly dramatized in Sofia Coppola's take on Priscilla Presley's 1985 memoir. Dagmara Dominczyk, Ari Cohen, Tim Post, Lynne Griffin also star. 113 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English.

I'm going to be sick if this doesn't get a nice 4k release from A24.

A24 will probably milk it and just do a special edition exclusive to A24 shop like they've been doing for some of their films.

That's what worries me, if they'd just do a standard 4k release I'd be all over this, but I won't pay for a fancy edition, I only do that for movies I REALLY REALLY love, and since this a blind buy I just can't spend that much. Sadly I assume that means I'll stick with this, once the price comes down, since $40 is too expensive for a bluray, even though I really want to see this in 4k.

$40 is just the msrp, it'll absolutely be cheaper at release

It should still look quite good on Blu, I saw it on a crappy uncalibrated Regal screen and it was still beautiful haha.

Down to a more reasonable $24.99 at Amazon. tt'll probably drop further as most Lionsgate releases tend to do, but doesn't hurt to lock that in.

Glad I got it for $17.99 on Amazon before it jumped back up to $27.99 which is ridiculous.

So far they haven't released many on 4K, at least not ones that got a Blu-ray release beforehand.

As much as I love Sofia Coppola, I don't think they'll do a 4K Collector's Edition of this. The Bling Ring celebrated a decade last year and they didn't even release merch like they did for Spring Breakers (which I thought was weaker).

Green Knight got an A24 4K release and was released on Blu& 4K previously. Same with, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, and The Lighthouse.

I know, I said they haven't released many that got a Blu-ray release previously.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is the most obvious to get a 4K re-release given all the success and awards. The Lighthouse has become a cult film (and everyone knew it had an old-school style aesthetic that would benefit from 4K & HDR). Midsommar had the benefit of being the first 4K release of theirs through their own label, and I feel that was mostly because it was the director's cut. The Last Black Man in San Francisco was a surprise, and Green Knight had a lot of hype before its release, and has since also become a cult film of theirs as well.

My point is that each 4K re-release kind of has a "point" (TLBMiSF doesn't make sense to me, but I welcome any 4K over a standard Blu-ray).

I loved Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, and its cinematography would benefit from a 4K release. Plus its Harris Savides' last film. But I don't see that getting released anytime soon. It would be awesome if they released Sofia's films on 4K (I believe On the Rocks was a co-production with Apple). Heck, Euphoria is 4K with Dolby Vision on HBO Max, but they haven't released it on 4K yet (or the scripts for the specials and Season 2).

Basically I'm saying it kind of sucks they pick and choose what gets released on 4K. I'm glad Marcel the Shell and Aftersun got their standard 4K releases, and that gives me hope they will put more effort into 4K home media, but yeah I'm not holding out for Priscilla. Which is why I bought it today. And apparently the code is VUDU only so I'll probably sell it and the DVD to make up for the cost.

Does anyone know if there's a way to redeem the code on Apple/iTunes?

I suppose I can sell it and just buy it on Apple, but I thought all Lionsgate codes gave Apple or VUDU redemptions?

Unfortunately, A24 never offers iTunes redemption.
