United Kingdom Utopia: Series Two - no release planned

Although the DVD release is set for 18 August 2014; there is no sign of a blu-ray release.....

Has anyone got more info on this? Will there be a blu-ray release at all?
Series 1 was a real pleasent surprise, so I'd like to get ahold of series 2.

I preordered the blu in December from Amazon, the preorder is still listed in my account but I don't think it'll happen. Utopia had very carefully composed visuals and looked much better on blu ray than the TV broadcasts so not getting the second series on blu will be annoying. British TV seems to have pretty much given up on blu ray apart from the most high profile series, which is utterly stupid as I suspect I'm not the only one who won't buy DVD editions of high def series. Among the series I would have bought on blu but won't on DVD are Happy Valley, The Honourable Woman, Line Of Duty and Inside Number 9.

Let's not delude ourselves:

Not even the most high profile series are getting Blu-ray releases in Britain.

I recently picked up the first series from my local HMV on Blu, they wouldn't have restocked the first series of they weren't planning on continuing the series, I've got about 6 weeks for them to do a proper announcement, show might not even be over by August 18th.

I was under the impression that series 2 had already started, but I see now that they begin tonight...so more info on a blu-ray release will follow soon, I hope.
If you get a response Ozu Teapot, then it will be appreciated .

No news yet so I also tweeted the question to 4DVD, Channel 4's DVD label.

I've just re-watched series 1 on 4OD in preparation for the new series tonight. The visuals are such a part of the show that it'll be a real shame if they don't bring series 2 out on Blu...

It seems mad that this might not be going to Blu! Especially as Fincher is adapting the show for HBO. A whole new international audience will be looking at this show as that project develops; it seems mad to not release a region free UK Blu Ray.

And yes it's a real shame of UK TV. This country has always produced great stuff but recently it feels like there has been an emphasis on producing shows that can really compete with the recent output of our friends across the pond. There's an emphasis on high quality shows with high production values, but a lot of them don't get high quality home video releases.

It's disgusting that shows like this often get ignored yet the abysmal Mrs Brown's Boys continues to get Blu-ray releases.

Abysmal as it may be, Mrs Brown's Boys attracts viewers and sells well. Utopia, presumably didn't. And whilst it is a shame (I must confess I haven't seen Utopia, but it looks very interesting), Channel 4 are already a loss making business without bandying around silly "art" arguments...

Yes Utopia is a little more "niche" than Mrs Brown. I've had no reply to my tweets despite the fact that C4 Utopia were tweeting a lot last night to promote series 2, which I feel is quite negative. But then I'm a kind of glass-half-empty sort of person...

Having looked at the website, they are almost solely promoting the DVD of S1, which isn't positive...

4DVD have confirmed on Twitter that there aren't any plans to release the second season on Blu Ray. Rubbish.

Looks like I'll just have to keep the new episodes on the DVR.

Although I understand it isn't financially viable, I think if something is shot and broadcast in HD it needs to be put on Blu-ray.

Another example is The Trip to Italy. Watched it on BBC HD and it was stunning. The DVD does NOT do the show justice at all. Emailed BBC to enquire about potential Blu-ray plans and they confirmed they're not doing it. Ridonkulous.

Very poor.

At least I can buy series 1 now without waiting for what I thought would be the *inevitable* series 1 & 2 box set...

Well, that news just.....sucks. No other way to say it .
I guess the sales of season 1 were very poor to make this kind of decision.

http://www.change.org/en-GB/petition...s-2-on-blu-ray

This was started a while back.

But, by the number of signatures, I guess we don't get a Blu-Ray

I re-watched my Blu-Ray (saw it in SD on C4 when it was first broadcast) and I have to say, it was a revelation in HD... really stunning cinematography.

Guess I'll have to upgrade to Freeview HD or go to SkyHD and record it that way for the new season.

Shame.

Bit gutted by this. Just bought series 1 on blu-ray to refresh myself before the new episodes. It always seemed to hold its price online and I don't remember ever seeing it in a shop, bar CEX, so I had assumed it was a good seller. Maybe there was little stock put out to retailers in the first place.
