Default Doctor Strange, Thailand release - no more 3D

Doctor Strange will be released in Thailand on March 2 on 2D blu-ray in standard and steelbook cases. The Thai distributor has stated that starting with this release there will be no more 3D releases from Disney for ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam).

I figured for Thailand that premium formats like 3D would be a difficult sell, especially with the high prices. Even DVD is a hard struggle with the cheaper VideoCDs along with "alternative" physical choices

That is correct. The DVD shops still have many old limited 3D steelbooks on display, with some bargains to be had. VCDs have completely disappeared though, with vanilla Thai-dubbed DVDs being the replacement. Here's the one for the Doc.

The Thai dub only DVDs were introduced as a stop gap solution to getting Thai consumers to move to DVD. Cheaper than the "standard" DVD but slightly more expensive than a VCD. I wonder if the 7-11s still carry the bargain VCDs in envelopes only. I haven't asked my family for VCDs in a long time and the last time I was there was 2012.
