Default Evolution (2015)

Quote:
Directed by: Lucile Hadzihalilovic
Starring: Max Brebant, Roxane Duran, Julie-Marie Parmentier, and Mathieu Goldfeld

This eerily seductive mind-bender is a dark, dreamlike descent into the depths of the unknown. Ten-year-old Nicolas (Max Brebant) lives in a remote seaside village populated only by boys his age and adult women. But when he makes a disturbing discovery beneath the ocean waves—a dead boy with a red starfish on his stomach—Nicolas begins to question everything about his existence. What are the half-remembered images he recalls, as if from another life? If the woman he lives with is not his mother, then who is she? And what awaits the boys when they are all suddenly confined to a hospital? The long-awaited new film from the acclaimed director of Innocence is awash in the haunting, otherworldly images of a nightmare.

Didn't get a chance to see this in theaters, unfortunately. But it looks pretty interesting.

I thought it was pretty good, nothing amazing but it's worth a watch.

Had this on my watchlist. Looks cool. I guess I'll have to wait for a BD release or something to see this.

Just saw this on VOD. I'm going to keep my thoughts extremely short, cause I feel everything I want to say about it, somehow gets completely lost in translation ...

Exploring themes as gender standards and the future of human reproduction, 'Evolution' is as intriguing and beautiful to watch as it is straight forward, somewhat cold and aloof.

I would rate it 7 out of 10 and recommend to avoid the trailer before watching the movie, cause it shows everything. And I do mean everything. There is not one single surprise left, plot-wise.

Managed to catch it in the cinema (UK) and loved it. Currently, in my top 10 for the year.
