nice! I am all for the release of more older concert films on Blu. I'd love to see Alice in his prime on the format. Alice has been pretty good at putting stuff out on there so far.

I know this is a long dead thread, but in case anyone comes across it looking for info on this blu release...
The video very much appears to be upscaled from standard definition. I was very disappointed to find this out. I've had the DVD since first released but now have an HD projector/surround setup and thought I'd treat myself to it in HD. When I put it in, I immediately could tell something wasn't right. There are obvious upscaling chroma (stair-stepping/jagged edges) artifacts. So then I took screenshots from the DVD and blu-ray in VLC and compared them. There wasn't a single bit of extra detail on the blu-ray. I mean none. Having no extra detail and the chroma artifacts make this less enjoyable than the DVD. Now the audio is lossless which is great. But strangely a small portion of the intro is actually lossy sourced (confirmed in spectral graph). I have no idea what they did there to cause that. I e-mailed Shout Factory about my upscaling concerns. I was polite but received no response. So I cannot recommend this blu-ray unless the lossless audio is the priority and the chroma artifacts won't bother you. I'm personally going to eventually they to couple the DVD video with the blu-ray audio. Wish they would do this right and put out another blu-ray release but that's probably not going to happen. |
