Harlock: Space Pirate 3D Blu-ray (2013) [Region Locked / Free]

Anybody else looking forward to this? It looks really slick in the trailer. I hope the 3D is strong. It hits 3D Blu-Ray in Australia on the 19th of March.

Regardless of mixed reviews, I think it looks awesome. Hopefully, we get a region-free disc with the English version somewhere.

With all the detail in the animation, it's hard to imagine the 3D stereography not getting the same love as well. It would be a tragedy if not.

The Australian one is listed as a Region B disc, so I'm afraid to preorder without confirmation otherwise. I'll have to get a region-free player one of these days.

And I don't know for sure, but I don't think the Japanese or French discs have the English International version.

This is a great point to make - - - most Asian Films released in European markets don't have any English language or subtitle option. For example, while Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai & The Guillotines are available in 3D in Germany (and France?), they don't have any English subs. Usually you can find Asian films released in Hong Kong w/ English subs, but neither of those two films above seem to be available in 3D with English subs anywhere outside of Australia.

Anyway - I'm also looking forward to Captain Harlock and am planning on picking up the Australian release.

Looks good. Hopefully we can get an English dub region A release somewhere. I prefer the original Japanese audio, but despise subtitles in 3D.

As long as the voice actors do a nice job, I don't mind English dubs for animation.

This Space Pirate film looks promising. Thanks for posting the details.

Here's hoping for a compatible version with subtitles or an English Dub version to understand the story. Yeah, let's hope they aimed for strong 3D. Outerspace is a challenge for 3D with the high contrasts of the black universe (dark matter) versus the brightness of the stars and ships.

[Show spoiler] If the 3D is strong, they have to try to post edit to reduce ghosting with our current limitations of 3D glasses being unable to block out all light from the other eye, leaving a "ghost image" where that eye's angle is supposed to be all black. Glasses free technology would likely wipe out most signs of ghosting.

Im watching it now. The animation is good and it feels like an adult cartoon.
The 3D depth is fantastic though have not noticed much pop out yet.

I viewed a brief LQ clip and some screenshots. Looks like a decent amount of parallax but inconsistent roundness. I noticed the strongest, roundest 3D was looking at the outside of the spaceships (even some hyperstereo miniaturization). I'm still pretty interested, but probably won't splurge over $20-ish for it if it's Region-free. Love the art and animation.

How entertaining is this movie? I find the problem with a lot of Asian animation is that sometimes the story doesn't translate well and can be a bit incomprehensible/ unsatisfying to my Western eyes. Is there a lot of action etc?

very entertaining but storyline is a mess you got to be really concentrated to watch
and you could be disapointed if you are a fan of the original space pirate captain harlock anime from 1978 i i am not disapointed but many fans are
