Default Dust on back of disc!

I watched a brand new Blu Ray last night and for the first time on a non rental disc the screen pixelated and froze up. I rewound the scene and the same thing. I took the disc out and looked at the back of it and it seemed spotless, however I then spotted the TINIEST dot of dust on the back which I blew off. I popped the disc back in and it was fine?

Can a miniscule speck of dust on a disc really cause pixilation and freezing?

It's the size of the dust that surprised me as I find it hard to believe that every disc doesn't have some this size on it. I ruled the player out as I don't think the exact same scene would have been affected. If it was the player it would be more random surely. Plus I watched 7 BDs in a week recently and all was well.

Sometimes just a spec of dust can be positioned on the disc just right to deflect the laser and cause a playback error. I've had it happen more than a few times before, and not only on Blu-rays. DVD and CD discs seemed to be even more problematic.

Before I insert any disc into my blu-ray player I blow off any possible dust particles.
