Default Death Occurred Last Night (Duccio Tessari)

NEWS

Quote:
Raro Video USA have confirmed that they are preparing a Blu-ray release of director Duccio Tessari's La morte risale a ieri sera a.k.a Death Occurred Last Night (1970), starring Frank Wolff, Raf Vallone, Gabriele Tinti, Gillian Bray, and Eva Renzi. The release is expected to arrive on the U.S. market in February.

Following the disappearance of his beautiful but mentally handicapped daughter, Avanzio Berzaghi (Vallone) travels to Milan to track her down. Local detective Duca Lamberti (Wolff) investigates the city's pimps and prostitutes for clues. When the girl eventually turns up dead, Berzaghi vows to find her killer. Based on Giorgio Scerbanenco's novel I milanesi ammazzano al sabato.

I'm a bit undecided on this one. Is this closer to a Giallo or an Italian crime movie?

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/c/ducc...e=30&startat=1

under it's italian title, at this time, for some reason > (La Morte Risale A Ieri Sera).

... if you're willing to take a risk on the transfer quality.

Transfer on this is immaculate! Raro have done a stunning job - not a trace of any of the problems that plagued NIGHTMARE CITY; no DNR issues, no grain issues, it looks superb!

As for the film itself, I would struggle to call this a giallo, there are very few of the genre tropes made famous by Argento et al. This struck me to be very much a straight down the line poliziotteschi. It has violence as well as moments of levity but the central theme of slavery/prostitution rackets is quite dark and the heartbroken dad at the centre of it plays the role superbly. Without giving too much away the end of the film called to mind Lado's NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS. The two cops reminded me of Thaw and Waterman in the 70s UK TV series THE SWEENEY

Yes. Not prototypical, but it definitely is within the genre. Pretty good movie/release as well.
