Honeymooners Reboot in the Works at CBS

“The Honeymooners” are coming back to TV.

TheWrap has confirmed that CBS is developing a reboot of the classic TV series. The multi-camera comedy will follow two couples, best friends and neighbors, who must contend with a new dynamic when one couple remarries after divorcing four years earlier.

Bob Kushell, who served as showrunner on “The Muppets” for ABC, will write and executive produce, with Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum and Jeff Greenstein also executive producing. CBS Television Studios will produce.

Haven't the studios learned their lesson by now? Especially after that movie version sank so low at the theaters that it sourced movie studios on adapting TV shows to big budget movies? Especially after they tried to reboot Murder She Wrote and Angela Lansbury came out against the rebooted TV series? This is one television series that should not be rebooted. It just wouldn't work in the modern world. Back in the 1950's and 1960's, it worked. Jackie Gleason simply cannot be replaced.

The only way I would watch it is if they got John Goodman to play Ralph Kramden. He's the only person who could do the role justice.

It really is a terrible idea. They tried rebooting the series as a movie franchise as an urban version of the Honeymooners and it was such a failure that it was panned by everyone. If it failed as a movie, I can't believe someone had the bright idea to reboot it as a TV series.

It simply won't be well received. The original show made jokes about domestic violence (pow, right in the kisser). That kind of comedy won't fly these days.
