Default Buffy the Vampire Slayer 4:3, 16:9 or both for possible Blu-ray?

I know, 16:9 is the WRONG AR, but like it or not people do like the 16:9 versions. But seeing as how many 4:3 shows have gotten remastered and released on BD in 16:9 there's a possibility of the same thing happening with Buffy. I want to see exactly how many people would prefer it the right way, the wrong way or just don't care as long as it looks great. I myself would prefer 16:9, but would buy it either way as long as it looks great.

It depends. The UK DVDs are 16:9 from season 4 onwards and it works well in my opinion. The HD broadcasts for season 4 onwards have cropped those 16:9 images, in some cases extremely, and it doesn't work. I'd be totally fine with 16:9 HD Buffy if it wasn't so badly handled! So I guess my vote is either way so long as it looks good, which the HD remaster just doesn't. It's not an issue of OAR for me, it's about something that could at least keep the tone and feel of the show intact.

Same here, aspect ratio isn't even an issue for me. It's everything else that's the problem with the HD masters out right now.

Either, but the current HD masters are spectacularly botched.

Well I watched the UK DVDs, so I got used to the 16:9 ratio for season 4 onwards, but from what I saw of the HD broadcasts when I checked them out a few months ago there's a lot more that needs to be fixed before the AR.

a long time ago, Joss Whedon said he did the show with 4:3 in mind (except for Once More With Feeling), so unless they get him to help with remastering, it should stay 4:3 because they've messed the 16:9 up so much...

IF the 16:9 versions were sensitively reframed with the full blessing of Whedon then I'd take those in lieu of nothing else, but if I had a choice between 4:3 and 16:9 both remastered to the same high standard I'd pick the 4:3 every time (aside from OMWF which is supposed to be 16:9).

The first 4 seasons of The X-Files were filmed in 4:3 but released in 16:9 on blu-ray. Also, every single episode of Baywatch received the same treatment for the blu-ray release. I had every episode of Baywatch on DVD from Germany and there was no cropping or stretching of the picture on blu-ray, plus the same applies for the first 4 seasons of The X-Files.

Buffy in anything other than 4:3 is a crime against the show and humanity.

I think this show with a remaster in 4:3 digital or disc would be the most exciting news in the history of the bluray format at this point for me, such a bummer disney owns it now.

There's a lot of Fox shows that would do well, that will never happen now unless Disney decides to license stuff out (still surprised they're not more open to this) or sells off any non-children/family or Marvel properties... but even had Disney not bought Fox, Fox barely released any shows on disc, or they dropped them quickly. Buffy, Angel, Roswell, New Girl, This Is Us, The Orville... I'd even like stuff like Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, Better Off Ted, Raising Hope, Wonderfalls, etc etc.

But yeah, if this wasn't 4:3, as much as I love it, I wouldn't support terrible cropping.

Same, I'd learn how to remaster and do the job for free if they'd let me. Already a quick learner with that type of stuff

What about the resolution? What kind of scam are they trying to pull having it be only 1080p. That isn't Blu Ray quality.

That's just a generic placeholder listing. Buffy has not been announced for Bluray and most likely never will be. In any case, 1080p is Blu-ray quality.

Well that's a shame. I'd buy it in an instant.

You're right. 1080p is Blu-ray quality but its basic Blu-ray.
Its been so long that I've looked at the specs of Blu-ray I forgot how low res it is.

I want 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.

I wonder will they make Angel Blu rays? I would love to see that in 4K Ultra HD.
