Question Curved 21:9 computer monitor

I was wondering if i will get black bars on Blu-ray films in 2.35:1 and 2.40:1?

What Blu-ray software do you use? I believe I read that Cyberlink will not support "cinema-zooming" in order to fit Cinemascope content on 21:9 screens, but I'm pretty sure that the ArcSoft TMT used to do this. Unfortunately ArcSoft no longer supports the product and it'd be impossible to get updates for newer movies with it; just recently the Rogue Cut Blu-ray would not play in ArcSoft for me.

Software like Media Player Classic is great for custom needs like this with .mkv files. Unfortunately I don't believe that the software supports native BD playback, without other means of extracting the video which I'm not going to go to detail.

The display should roughly look like the images below if the monitor is 21:9 and the software is decent enough.

1.33:1 Aspect Ratio "Star Trek: The Next Generation"

16:9 Aspect Ratio "Once Upon A Time"

1.85:1 Aspect Ratio "The 'Burbs"

2.39:1 Aspect Ratio X-Men Days of Future Past

Ok, i don't have 21:9 screen, but i just wanted to know how it would look. Seems like i must have the right software to get it right. I use PowerDVD 15. I was thinking of buy a 21:9 screen.

The 21:9 TVs usually have plenty of options, I doubt the monitor would be much different if you plugged a BD player into it, but it would be worth looking at reviews to see how they run with PCs, plus you'd need to make sure your GPU can support the different resolution.

Which monitor are you considering? i have the dell 34" curved monitor.. 3440 x 1440.. PowerDvd15 looks good in 1080 although you will have black bars on the side.. the only option to fill the screen is stretching not zooming.. even though its not a 4k monitor it looks amazing.. i bought mine for photography use.. i have a camera with 4k video and the quality is stunning on it.. also i really like the dell's split screen software.. you can use it to replace a dual monitor setup.. highly recommended monitor but pricey! i have a 2007 Sony bravia xbr4 46" tv in my living room and the dell blows it away! i did upgrade my graphics card from an nvidea gts 450 1GB to a gtx 960 4GB..

I have the samsung 34" 21:9 monitor, and I find it great for gaming if you have a great gaming rig (can't stress enough that you need a real good rig for gaming-preferably SLI),and it has absolutely no black bars at 2.35:1.Nice colours too.Only downside is price and gaming for sub-great set up.Bought mine on komplett.no too.Good, reliable store.

Default Blu Ray movie full screen playback for 21:9 monitor

I downloaded the Leawo free Blu Ray player and was pleased that I was able to customize the aspect ratio. With this player (I've tried several movies) Blu Rays can be played full screen with the customized aspect ration on my 21:9 LG screen. Picture quality appeared similar to the original aspect ratio so I was pleasantly surprised. The customized setting can be saved as the default playback setting as well. Good Luck
