If WB Archive does indeed peter out, I'm hoping to have my Thin Man and Lewton sets gone by then.

In a perfect world,

WAC gives us: The Ghost Ship, Bedlam
Criterion gives u: I Walked with a Zombie, The 7th Victim

But really, as long as anybody puts them out I'll be thrilled.

With October announcements for Criterion coming, it's time for my annual fingers-crossed release of ZOMBIE and/or FREAKS.

Beautiful! A wonderfully hopeful sign that they will finish the series on blu-ray!

While I want all six out of completism, the last two are pretty mechanical and watered down comedies where Nick and Nora lose their sparkle (and the Martinis) and become more Desi and Lucy suburban sitcom characters (Loy was so reluctant to do Goes Home they nearly replaced her with Irene Dunne), so if this turns out to be the last to be upgraded it's not such a bad place to call it a day.

Never say the last two, too bad they watered them down compared to the first four.

While I do very much want the last two entries, I do agree that the series was flagging. The Thin Man Goes Home is fun if you accept it as a Thin Man meets Andy Hardy affair (the same exteriors were being used). It doesn't quite have the wit of the earlier entries, and the only booze jokes in it are about Nick not drinking. Song of the Thin Man is something of a clunker. Someone got the bright idea to try to infuse it with film noir elements, and it doesn't work all that well. Plus, Nick and Nora had evolved over the years. By 1948, they were no longer the bon vivants of society but instead were a decidedly out of touch middle-aged couple. Perhaps part of that change was inevitable, but it doesn't make the last film as fun as the first couple of the series.

With all of that said, I still want the remaining films plus (if I can be greedy) the non-Thin Man Powell and Loy films - already have Libeled Lady but I definitely would like to have Double Wedding, Love Crazy, I Love You Again, etc.

Immediate pre-order!

I agree that the last two films aren’t at the same level as the first four. Shadow of the Thin Man as I’m sure most of you know, was the last in the series directed by W.S. Van Dyke, who passed away in 1943. But the scripts, and tone, of the final two weren’t quite up to par with the rest. They strayed a bit from the formula that made the series so successful.

But the completist in me wants them, and no matter who is directing, it’s still Bill Powell and Myrna Loy together on screen. That alone makes the film worthwhile.

Did I miss an announcement on this one? In any case, as with all the others, I'll be pre-ordering this. Drinks all around!

The pre-listing was found on Amazon. WB is no longer sending out press releases for WAC titles.

Contrary to what some have suggested, however, they have been announcing when titles are released on Facebook, so it's not like they've completely abandoned all communication. They just posted about I Wouldn't Be in Your Shoes! earlier today.

So odd, if you are going to release a title make some noise about it, FB alone doesn't cut it.
