I hadn't realised until now that Twilight Time were still in business. Good for them!

Damn, I've never seen this but have seen the title over the years. I'm assuming Giallo fans should probably add this to their collection?

I'd recommend it. I posted my thoughts in the UK thread a few years ago:

It was also fun seeing Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg on screen together. I turned to my other half and I was like, 'Yo, this is the couple responsible for that 'Je t'aime...' song.' She said, 'What the **** are they doing in this!?'

It's actually one of my personal favorites as far as giallos go, but I wish they've offer some details about the transfer they're using. If it's just the same one that 88 Films did with their Blu-ray, that had some serious issues.

It also seems strange that they are calling it "SEVEN DEATHS IN THE CAT'S EYES" (plural) on the cover artwork. I've never seen the English title of the film like that before.

Ah, here we go: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068415...=tt_dt_dt#akas

Apparently there were plural titles used somewhere before, but this looks to be the first English release (as far as a home video release) that will use the pluralization.

That's precisely why I was never in a hurry to watch it, even though I've had it for a while. Might as well just wait for the TT release, which hopefully will be a new transfer or will at least adjust the brightness levels.

Hmm. Strange. I messaged Blue Underground a few months back about this and Contraband and they said they still had the rights to this. Either way, I’m buying this release.

Now this is much more my speed for a TT release! I'm also hoping it's a new transfer, but I would assume if it was they would probably go out of their way to say that right? I wonder if they are also keeping the tradition of score-only audio tracks, though the website doesn't say anything about that either. I'll probably pick this one up regardless though, I love me some gothic giallo.

Uh oh. Don't f*** with Blue Underground lol. We all remember the Django mess

By my count this will be Twilight Time's second giallo release after Short Night of Glass Dolls. I never did pick up that disc because I own the German edition, which I'm very happy with, and I have the 88 Films version of 'Seven Deaths'. If I read positive reviews for the TT I might grab a copy but I'm not spending big on barebones Blu's much these days. Isolated scores aren't my thing. We shall see.

There was also La Bambola di Satana, if you count it as a true giallo that is.

Here is what Screen Archives have answered about the transfer:

Quote:
SEVEN DEATHS, which has an opening card labeling it as a 2K restoration by Rewind Films, is a dark genre film with a few sequences of dimly-lit interiors in which it is hard to make things out. We used the best HD Master possible from Rewind, and saw no need on our end to generate improvements. The transfer had no particular "blue tint" bias.
I'll have to check the 88 Films Blu-ray and see if Rewind appears in the opening card. I honestly really can't recall if it did or not. Rewind wasn't listed on the covers of that release as a licensor, but it mentioned a "New 2K Restoration from the original Camera Negative" on the back cover.

Reeally like this one, but as bad as the DVD's are, i still didn't pick up 88's release. Have been hoping something better will come along. Never really been a fan of TT's business model, but if they can get a better scan, i'd be all in for this one. If it's the same, then the wait continues.

Can anyone access this title on Amazon Prime. It now says This video is currently unavailable to watch in your location, but I was able to see it two months ago. Maybe Blue Underground did lose the rights.

If it's the same transfer as this, it looks pretty good.

Yeah, the darker scenes are dark, but overall it shouldn't be too bad. Or at least, I hope.

I actually remember seeing it on my Prime Video feed a week or two ago or maybe it was Shudder.
