Film Suggestions and Recommendations

Hey there.

I'm looking for suggestions for films that are similar to something like The Wrestler. I don't mean in terms of the subject (professional wrestling) but more in terms of tone, scale, etc. Basically films that are intimate character studies about a man (or woman) struggling with life, perhaps unknowingly traumatized due to an event in their past - that occurred before the central narrative of the film - and how they deal with their life and the people they know. It can be a tragedy or something uplifting, I don't mind either way. Any film from whatever era is fine.
