Default Guitar Hero 3: guitar wont make a connection

I've caught onto how the regular wireless controllers work, but how do I make this one connect? I either get a blinking like, or a very erractic blinking light on both the dongle and guitar. I can't get it to work, tried other batteries for a simple troubleshooting task... i pulled off one of the cover face plates, it looks like a phone cord plugs into it?

Can anyone tell me what to do with this simple task? what am I overlooking?

If it's a bluetooth device, which I don't think it is, you will have to link it through the "Accessory Settings" on the XMB. Otherwise, if it is infrared, then you need to make sure that you have a direct line of sight between the guitar and the unit that plugs into the USB port.

This appears to be a common problem according to folks over at the Guitar Hero forums.

I just followed the instructions that came with the game on how to connect and mine works fine. Guess I lucked out.

I've read the manual (as overly complicated as it was) both for the game and the guitar. also went to the official PS3 forum, and tried talking to them, had some other alternatives, and it isn't working for me.

Heres what you do!!!!!!

The PS3 needs to be off at 1st.

1)Insert the dongles into the USB port 1.
2) Press the PS button to turn the guitar on.
3) Press the power button and power on the system, do not turn it on with the six axis or u will have to start all over.
4)Press the little button on the dongles, the light should flash on the dongles.
5)Press the PS button and the guitar should assign itself to controller port 1.

I had the same problem, then I found one of my manuals and these are the instructions that I used and it connected fine. Good luck.

I guess the days of just hitting the power button are gone.

You need a PhD in game setup now.

Thank you. unfortunately, it did not work. I tried a 3rd set of batteries just to make sure I wasn't overlooking the simple troubleshooting of my matters... I dont know what else to do...

The problem is if you used the sixaxis to turn on your system it is occupying controller slot 1..and the guitar is then assigned to controller slot 2. Either turn it on from the console or use the PS button to switch to the XMB and re-assign the controller slots etc.

I had this same problem...but I was able to get it to work.

1.) Insert the USB dangle down thing

2.) Turn the PS3 on

3.) (At this point i'm not sure what i did next but..) Press the PS button on the guitar when the game starts, also hit the button on the USB dangle down thing

4.) Keep doing this until it works, it should work eventually

Glad that you got it fixed even though you had to go through all that trouble. Now you definitely deserve to rock out.

Default Same problem

I'm experiencing the same issues as you. I've tried everything... called the store I've bought it from who walked me through it and it still didn't work. Just about to go back to exchange and see if i get a working one.

That's a crazy amount of guitars that won't connect.

Both of mine worked beautifully.

Question

I was wondering if you guys have this problem? It connects fine but, sometimes when I'm playing, the red and yellow buttons don't work. So I have to stop playing and unlock the neck and then put it in again. Did any of you guys have this problem? Is my guitar defective?

Exchanged my guitar and it works fine now. Appears to be that some of the guitars are having trouble connecting... had a friend that had to exchange 3 times before he got one that worked. Guess until they fix it its just the luck of the draw.

Yeah, because Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2 were utterly free of annoyance factors and bugs.

Except for the fact that they weren't.

Are all these problems for the GH3 bundle for the PS3? I wouldn't think the guitar specfically made for the ps3 would have this many problems. I was thinking of getting the game but now I'm hesitant.
