Default Best TV of 2024 (Shootout): LG G4 vs Samsung S95D vs Sony A95L

Bezels hidden to eliminate brand bias. LGG4 wins.

I currently have and enjoy the Lg G2.
Any reason trade up for the G4 - is there a noticeable difference?
or sit tight and wait it out another a year or two?

G2 still looks amazing, I’m a tech ***** though so I’m upgrading to the G4. G5 should be even better and will be unveiled in January at CES so if you’re more patient than me, I would wait.

LG's G2 Gallery Series MLA OLED TV is a very good TV and the G4 is a nice panel upgrade and I also love the new a11 processor.

But in your case it's likely best to enjoy your G2 and let's see what LG comes up with when they announce the G5 at CES in January 2015 that will launch around May 2025.

Aug 'shootout' 2024:
1 Sony A95L
2 Samsung S95D
3 LG G4

Nov 'shootout' 2024:

Amazing what hiding the logo will do huh?

"Sony’s undefeatable auto dimming was annoying and relatively quick to take hold."

Funny how that could not be seen in Aug.

The fact that the Sony is so much more than the G4 and they don’t include anything to protect the screen in the box is crazy too. One of the most satisfying things of buying a premium TV is getting it set up and then peeling that plastic protector off the screen.

I don't get that either, your most expensive TV...and you cheap out on protection? Must be some kind of eco initiative thing. In fact the QD OLED screens are probably the most sensitive in general they are really hard to clean even when trying to do everything right, a touch of distilled water and clean microfiber if you hold up a flashlight you'll see it leaves little scratches. They pack the Bravia 9 like a tank though. If it were up to me they'd all have plastic protector + a nice thick piece of cardboard over the panel.

Agreed.
I was going to wait for the G5, but think I’ll be ordering the G4 within the next couple of weeks. Price is too good right now from places like buydig.

The tape over the TV bezels is just a clickbait gimmick that Vincent Teoh does to undermine the VE TV shootout and to market the company he works for and his brand. The tape over the bezels isn’t going to hide anything in my opinion, all of the bezels have a distinct shape that would still show up and be recognisable even with tape over the bezels.

What reason do the professional judges at the VE shootout have to be brand bias and allow it to impact their decision and the results? That’s a pretty serious accusation. Vincent Teoh is no David MacKenzie, or Stacey Spears. Vincent is doing David’s old job, David used to do Vincent’s job for HDTVtest reviewing TVs before Vincent did, but has moved on to bigger and better things with in the industry.

One of the “professionals” that Vincent used to judge his 2024 HDTVtest TV shootout has been commenting on AVS, and he isn’t very good at explaining how he came to his decision, he barely wrote a paragraph for each TV, unlike David Mackenzie and other judges who commonly post on forums after attending the VE shootout and write up a lot of technical info explaining exactly what they saw and the reasons for their decision.

Vincent should stop being a one man band and actually start attending the VE shootout, some years as a judge and some years as a calibrator, then he would gain a bit more credibility in my eyes.

Any expert would know which is which. Chrominance overshoot with WOLED, Matte screen on the S95D. Taping the logos would have no effect. If the judges didnt notice that, they werent experts.

What peeves me is that bit at the end of the video telling you to watch an out of date video 'showing' you to adjust menu options that have been moved and in general makes people who do not have the TVs jump to the wrong conclusion and why video 'info' is so bad to go by.

Lol! Sure whatever. Same TVs in both shoot-outs but different ranks with no logo to go by.

Thats why only 3 or 4 of the 9 judges at Vincent's shootout were actually qualified. Some were just "enthusiasts", others just youtubers, one that didnt want to be named.

But to be fair to Vincent, it's not the only shootout with some questionable judges.

And the terrible dimming on the Sony. I Still like a blind test better.

All of the TVs we selected that completed in our 2024 TV Shootout® Evaluation event were the very latest production models and we upgraded them to have the latest firmware available.

Also we don't cover the TV's brand label for several reasons.

1st is just from the frame and especially the menu that is displayed every time we change the TV's inputs would immediately give away each TV's brand.

Also we trust our top professional panel of video experts to be honest and just vote on all the picture attributes as we professionally demonstrate the best test patterns and then content that exploits the test patterns's performance results for each TV with real content.
