Default ANTHROPOPHAGOUS (1980) / ABSURD (1981) -- Severin Films, September 25th, 2018

Joe D'amato's infamous Video Nasties get their U.S. Blu debut from Severin Films this September.

Quote:
ANTHROPOPHAGOUS (1980)
Joe D’Amato’s Gore Classic
Now Uncut In 2K
For The First Time In America!

It has been called “seriously creepy” (CoolAssCinema.com), “insanely violent” (Nerdist.com) and “truly repulsive” (DVD Talk). It was seized by UK authorities as a ‘Video Nasty’ and accused of being an actual snuff film. Yet even by ‘80s Italian gore-spewing standards, this grueling shocker from sex & sleaze maestro Joe D’Amato (BEYOND THE DARKNESS) still stands as perhaps the most controversial – and extreme – spaghetti splatter epic of them all. Tisa Farrow (ZOMBIE), Zora Kerova (CANNIBAL FEROX) and co-writer/producer George Eastman (STAGE FRIGHT, 1990: BRONX WARRIORS) star in this depraved daddy of cannibal carnage from “Italy’s King of Trash Sinema” (Horrorpedia.com), now featuring a 2k scan from the original 16mm negative – including two of the most gut-retching scenes in horror history – and spurting with all-new Special Features.

Special Features:
* Don’t Fear The Man-Eater: Interview with Writer/Star Luigi Montefiori a.k.a. George Eastman
* The Man Who Killed The Anthropophagus: Interview with Actor Saverio Vallone
* Cannibal Frenzy: Interview with FX Artist Pietro Tenoglio
* Brother And Sister In Editing: Interview With Editor Bruno Micheli
* Inside Zora’s Mouth: Interview with Actress Zora Kerova
* Trailers
* Reversible Wrap

ABSURD (1981)
Joe D’Amato’s Splatter Epic
Now Authorized & Uncut
For The First Time Ever In America!

Toss away those inferior bootlegs and experience sleaze maestro Joe D’Amato’s infamous follow-up to ANTHROPOPHAGOUS like never before: Borrowing heavily from HALLOWEEN, D’Amato unleashes gut-spewing Greek boogeyman (screenwriter George Eastman) into suburban America for a “gruesome as hell” (CinemasFringes.com) and “incredibly sadistic” (ASlashAbove.com) saga of doomed nurses, butchered babysitters, bio-chemical clergy and some of the most insane splatter scenes in Italian gorehound history. Edmund Purdom (FRANKENSTEIN’S CASTLE OF FREAKS, PIECES) and Annie Belle (HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK, LAURE) co-star in this “violence-soaked bloodbath” (Hysteria Lives) and former ‘Video Nasty’ – also known as THE GRIM REAPER 2, ZOMBIE 6, HORRIBLE and MONSTER HUNTER – now featuring a 2k scan from the original negative and gushing with all-new Special Features.

Special Features:
* Rosso Sangue: Alternate Italian cut (with optional English subtitles)
* The Return of the Grim Reaper: Interview With Actor / Writer / Co-Producer Luigi Montefiore (George Eastman)
* D’Amato on Video: Archive Interview With Director Aristide Massaccesi
* A Biker (Uncredited): Interview With Michele Soavi
* Trailer
* First 2500 copies includes Bonus CD Soundtrack
* Reversible Wrap

Will wait for reviews. Absolutely no trust in Severin after their endless **** ups.

Already have 88's but really hope they don't screw up the encodes (or something). I'll patiently wait for some reviews since Severin are not that reliable.

I pre-ordered the less expensive Anthropophagous/Absurd Blu-ray Bundle from Severin earlier today, because I just want the movies themselves, and since region A is my option on the table by choice.

As someone who contributed to the 88 Films Kickstarter to have these remastered: you're welcome!

Would love to see Massacre in Dinosaur Valley with a complete uncut version as well since the 88 release is incomplete along with the cockfight scene.

Massacre in Dinosaur Valley is a treasure. I was unprepared for how fun and unintentionally hilarious that film was.

Severin is really good at marketing their stuff. Their releases aren't the best, but the packages are ridiculous. I don't like falling for the hype but they've enticed me more often then I care to admit. I wasn't gonna get ABSURD again as I already have the 88 Films release, but with the package? Sure, why not. Damn it. Damn you, Severin! A George Eastman doll with entrails? My life will be incomplete without it.

I've only seen the old U.S. version, The Grim Reaper. I've never seen Absurd (is it a sequel?). I'd like to pick these up at some point.

Absurd isn't literally a sequel. There is no continuity between these films, but they have a lot in common. You could say it's a thematic sequel. I mean people lump all the Fulci films together, but none of them are sequels either.

Cut to hell, murky, with a replaced soundtrack. The movie works a lot better in its original form.

I saw the hints on Friday regarding today's announcements and was happy to see these finally coming... of Course Anthropophagous is 1 month too late as I used July's $10 off $10 coupon to finally order the 88 Films Remastered edition. I had been waiting for Severin to release their edition since I learned they had it, but with no release date in sight I finally imported a copy. Of course now that I own that they've announced their own edition finally. I won't be double dipping as the 88 Films releases are enough for me. I will be picking up Absurd however in the near future so I am happy to see that coming as well.

I never did buy the UK versions, so I’ll be buying these two. Should be a fun watch.

I'm kind of reluctant to order this since they screwed up The Changeling I may wait a while unless there is a warning that the slip cases are starting to sell out. Either way I have to wait till I get paid this week.

Question for fellow horror fans...

Have you ever placed an order for a particular movie on Blu-ray, and then been slightly unsettled and creeped out that you actually ordered it?

(This has happened to me a few times over the past couple of years.)

Hey, didn't you pick up Erotic Nights of the Living Dead recently?

It's a Halloween (II) ripoff and I personally enjoyed Absurd over Anthropophagous.
