When connecting a player for example an Oppo using the analog outputs to a receivers analog inputs and setting the receiver to Pure Direct mode i.e. no ADC to DAC occurring in the receiver, is it best to set the Oppo to output a 'fixed' volume i.e. 100 and then use the volume control on the receiver to adjust the volume, or set to 'variable' in the Oppo but set the receiver to 0.0 dB plus set the receiver to power on at 0.0 dB, then adjust the volume on the Oppo?
I presume the volume control on the Oppo is operating in the digital domain and the volume control on the receiver in the analog domain? Although in the Oppo manual it states 'analog volume control' but I presume it is referring to the volume adjustments to the analog output, rather than the type of volume control. I am just curious as to whether it makes any difference. I will hopefully in the future replace the receiver with a 5 channel amp, of which all processing and volume control will be done in the player, but will still be using my current receiver until then. Thanks. Last edited by Tech-UK; 01-03-2017 at 09:06 PM. |
