United Kingdom Ordering from Australia (customs)

Hi all,

There are a few Blu-Rays and DVDs I want to order from Australia, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a customs friendly site.

Thanks

DevotedDVD are customs friendly. The delivery can take a little while but otherwise they're very good.

I bought several titles from EzyDVD in the past and they keep sending me updates even though I have not bought from them for years. It started because their 2-disc DVD release of Double Indemnity had extras that were not on UK or US releases. They were very good and but since I bought in 2s or 3s I had no customs issues.

I don't think in have ever been hit with customs when ordering from Australia, but like others said, it is luck of the draw.

Most of my Australian purchases have been made from ebay sellers. If you're lucky they will put a lower-than-actual value on the customs declaration More "official" sellers (ie not on ebay) can't do this.

JB HiFi are not customs friendly. Even states it on their page:

"International customers will be responsible for any import duties, taxes or any other import related costs."

I think that they could inform customers in a less harsh way, although it is the same risk no matter what country you order from and go over the £16 ( or £15, I forgot) threshold.
Either way,if I'm wearing a soft shoe or steel toe capped boots,a kick in the nuts is a kick in the nuts.

I think they're just covering themselves, rather than stating they won't help you.

And I think the £15 limit only applies for purchases outside the EU.

Correct. EU countries are a free market.

Although as this is discussing Australian imports then you will get charged for being over the £15 limit.

If Commonwealth countries were also a free market with each other then you wouldn't have to worry about imort charges but unfortunately this isn't the case.

"Customs friendly"?

I'm in Australia and I've ordered things online from many different countries including USA, UK, Germany, France and Japan and I don't think that phrase has ever come up, or had a problem with customs. You should be fine.

Here's a good Australian shop you should check out

Australia has a very high import limit, so living in Australia, you're unlikely to have problems. But in the UK (and the EU), packages must be very low value if coming from outside of the EU, otherwise they'll be taxed (and our delivery companies will add an admin charge too). Any DVD over £15, and declared as such, can be charged 20% VAT and an £8 Royal Mail fee upon entering the UK.

Not sure what you mean ?

The retailer will pick the delivery company. Most Australian retailers use Australia Post for deliveries to the UK which means Royal Mail when it gets to the UK.

Or are you talking about using an Australian based reshipping company to batch up any items and send to you in the UK in bulk.

Also worth keeping in mind that with the pandemic flights between Australia and the rest of the world have been reduced to 5% of their normally capacity.

This has resulted in parcels sent by normal postal services taking anywhere between 3 weeks to 3 months to arrive from the rest of the world to Australia. I'd assume it works that way the other way round but then maybe not.
