United Kingdom Raro Video

Looks like Raro Video are putting stuff out in the UK/Ireland via Radiance for all us Polizio Ultras!

After 3 years of waiting could we FINALLY see the promised Blu Ray of Mario Merola's hyperviolent ultrafilm Napoli La Camorra Sfida La Citta Risponde?

Anyone have the inside scoop other than the 3 launch titles Raro are putting out soon?

Raro Video UK and Polizio Ultras unite here!

First titles are here:

https://www.radiancefilms.co.uk/coll.../raro-video-uk

Made this its own thread as it is its own label and not Radiance Films. I'm assuming Radiance have done some sort of distribution deal perhaps? Regardless, it's great news and great to see Raro are alive!

You should sign up to the Radiance newsletter if you haven't already as they explained that Raro Video would be one of their 'hosted labels', but the difference is that they'll be improving each title with a new encode and some new extras too.

From the newsletter back in July:

Quote:
Raro Video x Radiance

We are delighted to announce a multi-title, multi-year agreement with Raro Video to represent the label in the UK with a range of titles commencing in October 2023.

Each new Raro Video release will be created in collaboration with Radiance and include newly designed artwork, newly encoded masters and include legacy and newly created extras.

The first title released by the label will be Giorgio Ferroni’s macabre masterwork The Night of the Devils starring genre icon Gianni Garko. The release includes a High-Definition digital transfer from the original camera negative and is presented in English and Italian with optional subtitles. Additionally, there are archival interviews with cast and crew, translated in English for the first time pus a new audio commentary by horror experts Alan Jones and Kim Newman, a booklet by Rachael Nisbet and more.

Rarovideo is the editorial division of Minerva Pictures, founded by Gianluca and Stefano Curti in December 1999, dedicated to the distribution of moving images of high and recognized artistic value, according to an interdisciplinary approach that combines product quality and editorial care. The brand has gained, in a very short time, a wide range of fans and the affection of critics, coming to be defined, in the New York Times, "The finest European film boutique".

Raro Video releases will be sold and marketed by Radiance Films in the UK and more information can be found at https://www.radiancefilms.co.uk/
Since this initial announcement of The Night of the Devils (Ferroni), they have also announced Gang War in Milan (Lenzi), Murder Obsession (Freda) and Death Occurred Last Night (Tessari) and have also confirmed upcoming titles will include The Boss (Di Leo), The Italian Connection (Di Leo), Shoot First, Die Later (Di Leo) and The She Beast (Michael Reeves).

I'm personally hoping to see if they got The Conformist (Bertolucci) for the UK as well, and maybe even Il Generale della Rovere (Rossellini) or Love in the City (Lizzani/Antonioni/Risi/Fellini/Zavattini/Lattuada). Some Westerns would be great too, and improved editions of gothic films like The Perfume of the Lady in Black (Barilli) and The Long Hair of Death (Margheriti).

Your post reads like strong literary pornography. A polizio fanatics dream!

GREAT to see Raro officially hitting these shores. Hopefully film and physical media fans will get behind these releases in the hopes of seeing even more.

You are right, that Gang War In Milan disc looks like a new encode and has all new extras as the 2014 USA disc was threadbare. The 2014 encode and print quality is supposedly very nice though, so a good baseline to go on perhaps.

I can't wait for more from Raro. I'll be buying all of their UK November titles just to support them. If you want polizio, or any cult Italian cinema for that matter then these guys are the masters. Imagine getting stuff like Shoot First Die Later (edit: just saw its been announced for UK release! Wow!) and Stunt Squad (absolutely incredible film) officially released here with no insane shipping and import costs?

Napoli La Camorra Sfida La Citta Risponde is the big one though. It was announced 3 years ago for the USA and never materialised. Even the merest hint of a pre-order button appearing on Amazon UK et al and I personally will be fighting my way to the front of the queue for it to get my copy first!

Here's to more from Raro UK division and to a very prosperous and successful future in tough times for physical media. Fingers crossed.

I hope they release Alberto Cavallone's Blue Movie UNCUT over here. The US DVD is CUT & despite the CUT stuff being included in the extras there's STILL stuff missing.

I'm also hoping most of their Gialli titles get released over here, outside of the ones that already have from other labels.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but has anyone been picking up their titles?
I was wondering how they compare to the (frequently flawed) Raro US releases, and most importantly, if they are fully uncut.

I picked up Night of the Devils, mainly for the extras and alternate version, and in terms of visual quality, it's slightly improved over the US release, which I already owned.

I now have Gang War in Milan on the way. I haven't seen any screencaps, and the usual genre websites haven't really covered it, so I'm wondering if this one is fully uncut, and if it's an improvement over the US BD.

thanks

I own Night of the Devils and Death Occurred Last Night and both have decent PQ, i don't own the Raro releases to compare like for like, but all the Radiance/Raro discs will have new encodes with slightly better compression and gamma levels from what i have read elsewhere.

I don't own it but i'm sure that Gang War in Milan will be uncut.

The Arse of the World's Mind
Default Raro Video UK

Here are the UK Raro Video releases. These are not quite the same as the US releases as some have newer restorations & most if not all have more extras. Also, according to DVDcompare, Death Occurred Last Night appears to be in a different ratio (1.71:1) to the US release (1.66:1).

1) The Night of the Devils (1972)
2) Gang War in Milan (1973)
3) Murder Obsession (1981)
4) Death Occurred Last Night (1970)
5)
6) The Italian Connection (1972)
7) The Boss (1973)
8)
9)
10)
11) Revenge of the Blood Beast (1966)

Isn't Death Occurred Last Night also part of the Radiance & partner labels sales at HMV & Amazon?
