Default 10yr old Samsung 46" LCD Screen Issue

Hello all, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. If not, please re-direct me.

I have a 10 year old Samsung 46" LCD TV that has been used heavily as my living room TV for its lifespan. A few days ago, it a big black bar started appearing over half the screen intermittently while I was watching Netflix.

The issue seems to occur most frequently when I pause my content and re-start; however, the issue occurs for a few minutes, then goes away. There seems to be no clear reason as to when it will happen or how long it will last.

Regardless, the issue is happening more frequently as time passes and I'm GUESSING this means it's time for a new TV? Since I can get a bigger/better TV for probably half of what I paid for this one 10 years ago, it wouldn't be a travesty to have to buy a new one, however, I typically never replace products until they are truly broken. Thoughts?

Wouldn't hurt to turn it off, unplug it for about ten minutes, and then plug it back in. I understand that sometimes they need to be "rebooted" for lack of a better word.

Also, I would think that if this was only happening on one input, that the issue could be the HDMI cable.

Anyway, just my initial thoughts.

I thought I was the only one still watching a 46" Samsung LCD these days, however I am purchasing a new one very soon. At one time mine lost its picture completely with an all black screen, did not matter what source I was watching, and at times would correct itself, but not always. I always turned it off, then back on which worked until one day nothing helped. Like floridaswamprat said, I replaced the HDMI cable and no more picture problems. Personally, if I was you I would still start looking for a new TV, even if you are able to correct the problem. My set has lost its picture quality very bad, image retention is horrible, and the colors have lost its pop, along with my black level which is now more grey than black. Good luck.

I have a 6 year old JVC 42" LCD that went through a lot of use and started to display a similar condition.

It got worse and worse and worse until it became unusable. It was my bedroom TV. Nowadays it flickers for a few minutes, with these noticeable weird bars, then it'll display the correct image.

Anyway, I replaced it with a 50" Vizio a month ago.

Now it just sits around the house. Since it still quasi works, I feel bad throwing it away, but it's in no condition to be sold or given away.

Time to get a new TV, friend.
