Looking for an opinion from you all.........was about to jump on a 52"xrb4, and same store (HH Gregg), has a KDS-60A3000 rear projection on sale for about $1200 cheaper. TV will set in a fairly dark media room, watching from a distance of 9-10 feet. The new set is replacing an older 42" Sony Plasma.
We will primarily be watching movies w/blu-ray, older DVD's, and OTA HD ball games. Other than that most other TV watching is in the den. Both TV's appear to have nearly the same bells and whistles, but of course different technology. Have looked at both.....and am having a "brain freeze" with regard to making a decision. The sale on both tv's ends tomorrow. The price on the 52" is fantastic....but ending. I would post the price...but don't really understand the forum rules about posting..... Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks |

The 60A3000, better colors, better blacks, faster response time & it is bigger
![]() Sports will look much nicer on the a3000, then on an LCD, part becuase of the fast response time of the RP. & Standard def Tv will look better too on the RP. Do not forget to Calibrate the tv (ANY TV), on a RP tv you have to wait about 500hours for the lamp to 'break-in', so about a month or two would be fine. You can do it sooner but the britness, colors & contrast will be a 'little diffrent' when it gets around the 500hours & stabilizes |

I have had the A3000 for a couple of months now, and even though I bought it when the price was $2699, I have never regretted buying it. Each day I watch either a Blu-ray disk, or DirecTV Hi Def broadcast, or even an upconverted SD, I love this set and am really pleased that I got it.
Wouldn't trade it for any other unit out there. -Greg |

I love my RP sony and used it for a year, but i had to go with the XBR4 in the end. I love the motion enancher its really nice, makes HD look way more real and it works so much better as a monitor for my comp as well. But go with the RP its just as good and much bigger.

Thanks for the feedback......I plan on going to the store around noon..(high noon for you movie buffs....thought it would add to the drama of the decision). Still haven't quite made up my mind.....I am a little concerned though that the 60" would be too big for a 9-10' seating distance.....The entire media room is 16'x 13'........but again I hear bigger is better. Remember, my point of reference is now a older (but good ) 42" plasma.Don't want to overwhelm...or underwhelm.....
Thanks again |

I have a 62" RP TV at home and my viewing distance is anywhere from 8' to about 12' (depending on where I am seated). It's not too big at that distance in my opinion, but any bigger and it would be.

Well......just an undate......52"xbr4 was delivered yesterday morning....hooked up to bds300, and my surround system......and all I can say is "wow".......how impressive. Watched some Planet Earth (had watched it earlier on my Sony 42" Plasma (720P), and this xbr4's picture just blew my old plasma's picture away.......
But here is the kicker......I put in a standard definition dvd (pearl harbor), and I can't imagine the picture being any better with a true blu-ray version. (told my wife it was a blu-ray version I had bought.......then told her the truth....she was astounded as well....because she had seen the versions in the store as well). Anyway...this board is a wealth of information.....and as another poster said..."keep it coming".....and thanks for the help |
