Apologies if there's already a thread on this, but I wasn't able to find anything so far.
I have been sick of the theater chains here running 2D shows with the 3D light polarizer in place. It robs the image of brightness (50-85%!) as well as sharpness as the picture is now out of focus. I complain and complain and the chains in the Minnesota area like AMC, Regal, Marcus, Paragon, etc do nothing when I inform them of the problem. There is one AMC theater in my area that has a Dolby Cinema room now (it's called AMC Prime), and after seeing Batman v. Superman in the LA area last year in Dolby Vision I was very impressed with it. I was under the impression that Dolby Cinema was 2D only, but that doesn't appear to be the case. However, after reading that the projectors are Christie 6P dual head laser projectors that don't use polarization for 3D. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015...audio-awesome/ A more technical description of the projector: https://www.christiedigital.com/Tech...-3D-cinema.pdf So does that mean that I don't have to worry about super dim 2D presentations anymore if I go to a Dolby Cinema showing because there's no lens to remove? ![]() Hopefully this means that the projection system doesn't rely on lazy theater workers for picture quality anymore, because after years of complaining in person and by email and letters I have given up on that ever happening. |
