Default 2.35:1 dedicated setup (and loving it)

Hi,

My HT has changed A LOT this year. First of all I think it was last year that I realized I could make the room longer and fit two rows of seating so that was big.
But, late this year I was in for big changes... (That happened to be free.)

I was tuning up my HT to show the Shallows when it was released and some peers suggested that my contrast ratio was poor for the pj I was using (HW30ES). After hosting the movie night I sent the pj to Sony and they replaced it with a brand new HW45ES. !

Then, more recently a nice forum member gave away his screen when he upgraded and I was in the right place at the right time and scored a fantastic 128 inch 2.35:1 screen.

(I know him as James ... I think he said his forum name here was Crow which seems familiar but I haven't been able to contact him since recieving the screen.)

I struggled a bit to adjust to a 2.35:1 screen while using a native 16:9 projector.

Thankfully, I run all my media through JRiver and yesterday a forum member (of the Jriver forum) showed me a better way to manage scaling for the scope screen.

Now everything is so amazing and perfect... I just can't believe the quality I'm getting from my own setup. 16:9 content is slightly down scaled but still looks great.

The biggest surprise was when I tried The Dark Knight. It put the 2.35:1 content on the whole screen and then side boxed the IMAX scenes automatically preserving the correct ratio at all times.

So, I have no anamorphic lens but I have the best system I've ever had and I can't stop loving it.

-Brian
