Default I love the early 90s.

1990-1994:

-Peak Schwarzenegger/Seagal/Van Damne.

-Live action kid movie boom (Ninja Turtles, Home Alone, Problem Child, Bingo, My Girl, Mighty Ducks, etc.).

-All those fun, trashy Fatal Attraction and Die Hard knockoffs.

-Peak Hood cinema.

-The Indie craze was just starting to take off

The music was pretty awesome, too.

I spent almost every weekend at the dollar theater during this time plus the malls hadn't died off yet and they arcades were fun.

Early 1990s. I'd have to think of what great movies were released then.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990s_in_film
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...s_of_the_1990s
Here's a reference of 1990s films.

I'll say:

The Naked Gun 33 1/3 1994
Lion King 1994
Aladdin 1992
Jurassic Park 1993
Terminator 2 1991
Speed 1994
Exorcist 3 1990
Misery 1990
Troll 2 1990

Additional early 90s films worth noting:
Last Gremlins 2 was in 1990.
Army of Darkness was 1993.
Dr. Giggles was 1992.
Twin Peaks Fire Walk 1992
Dead Alive (braindead) Peter Jackson 1990

I dig the 90's; pretty eclectic decade.

I'm always doing a slow loop through my shiny discs in chronological order, and whenever I arrive at the late-80's/early-90's I always enjoy re-experiencing the "Indie Renaissance" and birth of the "Sundance Era", when filmmakers like Sayles, Jarmusch, Soderbergh, and Tarantino thrived alongside international smashes from the likes of Wenders and Kieslowski and Wong Kar-wai.

Then, co-existing with these art-house glory days, the mid-to-late 90's brought Hollywood blockbusters to a new level that I like to call "experiential cinema"... NOT "experimental" cinema, mind you; I'm talking about the use of new visual and audio technologies to transport the audience more effectively than ever before, so we could feel -- just a little, perhaps -- what it may have been like to ride the Apollo rocket into space or sink into the icy seas after hitting an iceberg or storm the beaches of Normandy.

I kinda think the technical craft of filmmaking may have hit its zenith during the 90's, even if 1967-1982 is my personal favorite era for movies.

I remember when a THX-certified auditorium was the best way to watch any movie...

I was born in 1980, so the '90s were my formative years. Many of my later childhood and teenage favorites came from that decade: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Rocketeer, The Mask, The Crow, The Shadow, The Phantom, and Mortal Kombat (original only, not the atrocious and overpacked sequel). Some of my earliest relatable TV shows also first aired back then, like Boy Meets World, Batman: The Animated Series, Dawson's Creek (yes, I was one of those boys who shamelessly watched it), Home Improvement, Animaniacs, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. But none of those shows beat what first drew me to live-action TV as a kid: Saved by the Bell. I had the biggest crush on Tiffani Thiessen as "Kelly Kapowski", identified like crazy with Screech, and always wished I could get away with half the stuff Zack Morris did.

I would say cinema wise really the early 90's felt more like a continuation of the 80's.

It was really more around the mid 90's that I think the combination of more family friendly CGI action and big slick drama which people associate with the decade took over.

Agree. It was just an incredible time to be a kid. Peak Nickelodeon, a very lively era for arcade gaming, etc. Another thing I'll add is golden age for baseball movies from 1988-1994 with the more family oriented ones from the 90s.

In contrast, the late 90s were terrible.

I disagree. A lot of great films came out in 1999 - The Phantom Menace, The Matrix, The Sixth Sense, The Mummy, and Tarzan. All of them were very popular, and two led to wildly successful trilogies.

Roger called 1993 the year of miracles, and it really was, with 1994 waiting in the wings. 1993 started with Alive and Army of Darkness and the year became a parade of stunners and craft...good times.

Good times for B-Movie fans., This was when Full Moon Entertainment were at their peak. It felt like they released a new direct-to-video feature each week.

Puppet Master II
Demonic Toys
Subspecies
Meridian
Bad Channels
Dark Angel: The Ascent

The early 1990s also saw one of my favorite companies, Vestron Video, going bankrupt and out of business.

Still, lots of fond memories of going to the video rental store in the early 1990s.

I would say the last gasp of great Hollywood gangster epics at the start of the decade with Goodfellas, Millers Crossing and King of Newyork coming out within weeks of each other.
