What is the best Anime Series?

I've been a Berserk fan for years. Imo, it's a great story and the '97 anime shows it so well that each episode can breeze by one after the other and it's never a dull experience. My only gripe about it is that it can be a bit cheap at times, and they had to stop after one season.

I like what they're doing with the rebooted film series, but I don't think it really found the right balance until the third (latest) movie that came out.

Were it not for that, I'd probably have voted for the original Evangelion, Samurai Champloo, or one of the Full Metal Alchemist shows.

I'm so glad you included Monster, because that's my choice, easily. Granted I still haven't seen as much anime as I'd like to, but it'll be very difficult for anything to compete with that. It's just brilliant, and I appreciate that it's mature and intelligent with no goofy humor or over the top sex or violence, something that sets it apart from most of the other shows I've seen.

NGE and Mushishi would be my second and third choices.

Future Boy Conan is very high on my list too.

For me, it has to be Dragon Ball Z (or Kai, which is more faithful to the manga). I don't like to separate it from the original Dragon Ball series since manga-wise they are one and the same, but the Z part was always much more interesting to me.

It may not be the best (that would probably be Death Note), but it's my favourite nonetheless.

DBZ of course, then probably evangelion. I would include the movies but part 3 is an abomination.

I find it odd that Clannad: After Story is included, but not Clannad. Why include one, but not the other?

Anyway, my vote should be obvious to anyone that really knows me. I'll leave it a mystery to everyone else.

Well, none of my all-time favorites are on this list - Noir, Last Exile, Blood+, Gunslinger Girl, Black Lagoon, Psycho Pass, etc... just too many good anime out there to put in one list. I figured I had to go with Ghost in the Shell SAC though, since I just recently spent $800 to import the Blu-ray box sets of the two series and the three movies from Japan - guess I gotta like it somewhat, in order to do something crazy like that...
