So I've had my Xbox One since July 2015. It works well when it comes to playing games and streaming, but when it comes to playing Blu-ray movies I often get mixed results.
Here are a few examples of what I mean. First, I once had a moment when the picture pauses as the audio continues and then the picture gets back in sync with the audio (occurred in X-Men: Days of Future Past). Second, there was an audio snap during one scene in Kingsman: The Secret Service. Third, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban's audio was out of sync with the picture. And last Christmas, I try playing Star Wars Rebels season two but the app crashes when I try playing the first episode. I'm concerned about this because it would be cool to just use my Xbox as a Blu-ray player (and no, I cannot afford a PlayStation 4). Would plugging in a different HDMI cable improve the Blu-ray player when I watch a movie? What other solutions do you recommend? |

I've only ever played 3 Blu-rays on my Xbox One because I have a dedicated Blu-ray player. The first two Blu-rays on my Xbox One were fine, no noticeable problems. But the third, which I watched just last night, had a noticeable audio sync issue.

I find playback issues when my One is set to bitstream DTS, some discs stutter or there is a slight audio delay.
I've determined this is due to the transcoding of the audio to PCM then into DTS output. When I choose Dolby Digital, the DD output of the decoded PCM track has smoother playback. As I only have an LG soundbar, I decided to opt for PCM stereo and no playback issues since the audio stream doesn't need to be re-encoded during playback. I miss some of the punchier audio and virtual surround effects with DD/DTS output but I'd rather have smoother playback. I'm also in the beta program and I have the option to just send the audio untouched to my receiver but then I get no sound from DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD tracks. PCM 5.1/7.1 and any DTS or DD track works fine and man it sounds amazing through my soundbar. |

Glad I'm not going crazy...I always thought my blu-ray movies didn't look that great on my Xbox one - I pulled out my standalone blu-ray player and there was a big difference.
I'm not even talking about the picture locking up occasionally and sync issues, I'm talking solely quality of picture - I noticed a big difference. |

I've heard of people having issues with audio sync before. Do you make sure all other apps are closed. I know the Xbox is multitasking, but I find it performs better when you close apps after using them.

I didn't buy my son an Xbox One to play Blu-rays; I bought it for him to play games. We have a dedicated Blu-ray player and it's perfect. If there were an issue with the console playing games, then I'd be annoyed. But there isn't and I'm not.

I've watched a few movies now on it and it's been fine, bitstreaming worked great. The player menu is not the best. When you can have the buttons available on your remote using your stand alone player, having to use the soft menu kind of sucks. I have not looked into seeing if you can program any of that into the Harmony though.
